I mean anyone taken 5th round or later is no sure thing to make the team so whatever…I would rather we take a flyer on a WR…if Pickens or DK goes down, we’re f **ked lol

And Seahawks take Horton a couple picks later…that’s who I would have liked the Steelers to try to develop…he fell because of injury but a really good talent

Lot of emphasis on size and stopping the run

I’m A-ok on a big dude that can maybe plug the middle. Long term Benton is gonna need to slide out of NT so if Black can become competent there that’d be cool.

I think there is also a chance that Rooney stepped in and said no to Sanders. I don’t think he’s generally too involved in the draft, but I saw some speculation that he wasn’t behind drafting Sanders.

Yeah. With The whole Steelers DNA thing about Harmon.
Sanders is the opposite of that.

I wouldn’t doubt they had him as a DND

I like the pick. It is value.

But basically zero offense this draft for a team who could not score.
Metcalf (traded 2nd rd pick) and Johnson (3rd rd pick) will be high impact offensive players for us. And Wilson could still be a good receiver as well (truly unknown). And 3 picks left to get a developmental QB (Rodgers is all but certain now) and hopefully a rotational/developmental OL.

Their second round pick was spent on Metcalf and they took Johnson in the third. This team won’t be able to score until the find a QB and that wasn’t happening in this draft.

I’m liking the emphasis on defense. If people want the spending to level out, you need to start finding younger, cheaper guys to plug in.

They drafted a RB...which is technically 50% of their offense. What else did they really need offensively besides a QB...which they still may take?

Yeah like I wanted them to take a WR, but they still have Metcalf, Pickens and Austin at WR this year. I want them to take a QB, but they'll still have Rodgers and Rudolph. They added a power RB, which was pretty much their only "major" need in the short term.

They need to draft a QB here as a developmental pick, which considering they have 3 picks left I'm expecting to do. But beyond that, I don't think there is really much else to add on offense at this point. In this point in the draft, you're not getting a difference maker anyway.

I like what they did so far, bolstered the defensive line which is aging and killed them down the stretch against the actual competition on their schedule. If they pan out the line should be steady for years to come.

And with the cheap draft assets being spent on the defense, perhaps they'll start transfering cap spending over to the offense going forward in free agency or trades.

If they want to throw a 6th or 7th pick at a qb now just to have someone young in the room I'd be fine with it, but I'm happy they seem to be planning for next draft or the one after to go get the guy they really want for the future.

I mean, they need a QB but this idea that this is a "crappy team" is completely ridiculous.

This is a crappy team. With Rodgers it’s probably going to be the same old wild card and obliterated in our 1 playoff game. Without Rodgers, it’s going to be very crappy.

People seem to be forgetting how terrible the line was last year despite all the draft capital that has been spent on it.

With the Steelers not drafting a legitimate Pickens replacement at WR this year (even if they take someone, it won't be a potential Pickens replacement), I'm a bit more inclined to attempt to adjust his usage some so he can complement Metcalf a bit better.

Both are primarily outside guys obviously, but Pickens has gotten a good amount of slot usage in the past. I think Metcalf is your new deep ball WR, but I think you can adjust Pickens a bit to have him almost as a slot/deep ball hybrid type of WR. If he can do that, I think it starts to make a lot more sense to just re-sign him over taking a 3rd round comp pick for him.

It largely depends on his attitude as well, I can very easily see Pickens losing his shit when Metcalf is getting more receptions than him.
