OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

I think I’m at the point where there’s very little doubt in my mind he’ll be available. There’s just some doubt they actually take him.

I’d be surprised if they don’t but even the people mocking him to the Steelers say they’re not convinced they’ll actually go that direction.
I can only hope another team takes Sanders before the Steelers have to make a decision. He has some intangible traits people value, but he has to go to the right team/system/coaching staff to be successful, and the Steelers aren't that organization that can bring it out of him.

People, including the national media, are twisting themselves into a pretzel trying to justify the Steelers taking a QB at 21/1st round if the move down (yikes if they move up). This team has other needs. Harmon/DL would be my top choice, though you wonder about the medical situation he apparently has that has scared teams away. I can justify taking a CB/WR/S in the first round. I have no confidence this coaching staff can develop a QB unless he's a can't miss/even we can't bleep this up. I'm guessing (just a hunch; I haven't seen/heard it anywhere) that the only person in the front office who would want Sanders is Tomlin; he seems to go for the story/brand of a player; plus, he wanted Pickett, and how did that work out?. I don't want any QB until at least the 5th-6th round.

Brugler’s mock has the Steelers passing on Sanders for Harmon. At this point literally every somewhat reputable draft guy has either mocked Sanders to the Steelers or has them passing on him for Harmon.

I’d be a little surprised at this point if it wasn’t one of those two guys.
or have us trading back in a draft class that has no one worth trading up for

Man, I like Kyle McCord lol. I just like how accurate he is with the ball. He has that killer instinct the ball in his hand, and if we can figure out a running attack, I just love QBs like him in that scenario. I think our backup could be in this draft. Someone can save this and check me later - this is how I think it will be 3 years down the line.

I'm all for one of the 3rd round guys - Howard or McCord.

Only way to make 21 more valuable with the landscape is to take 2026 picks. Only way to differentiate. If a team can go to 21 for a 1 and a 3 next year, they may consider it...especially if it's a team that has a QB. Get a 1st round talent into the system faster to help them win now.

Saving for posterity

I like McCord a lot as a backup. I want to take a QB this draft, just not someone in round 1.

I think I'm at the point of hoping Milroe slides to their round 3 pick and they can take him as a developmental guy. Round 3 isn't a high enough pick for me to think they'd pass on a QB next year if they're in a position to get a legit QB, and I think Milroe is the best HR swing they can make at QB in this draft.

This year I don't have a player or players that I would absolutely love for the Steelers to get like I usually have had in the past drafts.

I have liked what Khan has done the past two drafts targeting needs.

I feel like Milroe goes in the 40's or 50's, his athleticism is what separates him from the rest of this shitty QB class and some team will bite

Fwiw, Jeremiah has said he's 50% or less confident that the Steelers take Sanders if there.

Extreme hedging season.

Dulac's last minute takes are that the Steelers just aren't taking a 1st round QB.

Tbh I don't see anyone in that range that seems all that likely to be QB shopping like that.

I don't think he lasts until the Steelers 3rd but the feeling I have with him is someone like the Jets or Raiders takes him in the early 3rd. Not sure who in the mid/late 2nd really makes much sense with Milroe, but I think the Steelers would probably have to trade up to the mid/late 2nd to get him over the Jets or Raiders.

I’m just generally disappointed overall with our drafting, even the last two drafts in which we have gotten some good players…I think we’re overall too focused on need when, especially in round one, they should be picking best player available with just a few minimal parameters that have more to do with scheme fit, medical, age etc…we almost always ignore that and go for top player at position of need and we may have been a better team doing otherwise…I’m just talking about round one…but for example, if one of the top tight ends drop, and they’re ranked higher than the DL prospect available to you, then take the TE…

Dulac also said that the year they took Kenny Pickett…lol…I just trust his “insight” into the team

Without trades, that includes New Orleans who seem near to certain to take a guy there.

With trades... maybe not that likely, but if the Giants/Browns don't blow their load and the Steelers don't take a round 1 QB, you'll still probably have a lot of guys there in the last 50s and moving up from the 3rd round to get ahead of the other guys is maybe possible.

I just can’t see it. I think he goes early 2nd to one of those teams.

I feel like New Orleans is going Shroud personally.

If I had to guess how the top QBs go in this draft, I'd probably say:

-Sanders: Cleveland
-Dart: NYG
-Shroud: New Orleans
-Milroe: Jets or Raiders, both seem about equally as likely
-Ewers: Steelers

Solid autocorrect. Calling the kid Funeral Shroud from now on.

Yeah he lets his own opinions come across as sourced information way too much. He did the exact same stuff about them taking DL and was super dismissive to anyone that suggested they would take Pickett.

He could be right. He could be throwing out misinformation. Who knows. He’s just way to unreliable with draft stuff.

Likewise. I feel like he’s a guy who could have a Case Keenum like career.

And to push this to the ‘26 draft for a moment… can someone tell me what separates Allar from McCord?

I’m not even a big Allar fan but the arm talent between him and McCord is night and day. And from what I’ve seen Allar has a little bit of improvisational ability that McCord lacks.
