OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

It's not "logical" but it's also somewhat human nature that a team that thinks of itself as a playoff team would miss out on Rodgers and then just shrug and say "we're good" with Rudolph.
These guys are paid a lot of money to be logical and do what is best for the team regardless of fan or media perception. Besides, if they take a QB and he sucks, fans and media are going to criticize them anyway.

I wouldn't read anything into that when another NFL insider said this 2 days ago:

I don't see how it's logical at all. You're not going to pass on a QB you like because you signed a 42 year old and taking a guy just because you need a body when you could just go sign one in FA is incredibly dumb. If they take a QB, I think it's because they like him.

I thought Rodgers was the worst possible outcome, but with that contract, Cousins would be even worse 🤮 🤮 🤮

People are often illogical.

Someone changing their mind on a person and forming a more positive opinion of that person's talent because they're desperate for some hope and optimism is a fairly classic example of one of the ways in which people are illogical. I can very much see the Steelers talking themselves into drafting a guy they didn't quite like enough back when they thought they were getting a better QB option in FA.

Random engagement farming Twitter page links to their cesspool website an article centered around a 10 second soundbyte heard on a Houston Texans podcast that a Houston Texans insider claims to have heard from someone else that a Pittsburgh Steelers top 30 visit didn't go well...

Social media was a mistake

Wilson is actually pretty legit when it comes to the NFL circles so thought it was worth sharing. Also love the irony of complaining on social media that social media was a mistake.

You're right that forums are definitionally considered social media, however it feels like there's a very stark difference between a platform technology that arose in the 1970s with the kind of garbage we see today, where Google, meta, and X user data is used in algorithms to shovel targeted content to users in order to farm clicks.

Steelers depot is one of those clickbaity sites that scour random media content and push low effort content out to the masses using baited article titles in conjunction with Google chrome feeds and X posts. I see it pop up every time I open a new chrome tab, usually with some catchy title like "$100 million dollar QB linked to Steelers" and then it's about some rando on YouTube talking about the Steelers signing Carson Wentz.

I'm in no way an advocate of drafting Sanders but to argue that the Steelers' QB room isn't a mess because Rudolph and Thompson have started playoff games is just...something.
Yes, the whole let’s ride with Rudolph segment of our fanbase dont live in reality.

Dude is a mid back up. Hence, the Steelers are letting Rodgers take his dear old time. They need to know if he is signing here before the draft. I think their approach to the draft needs some f***ing clarity.

Few other points:

-Rodgers told teams he was only asking for $10 million a year, he's not asking for a multi-year deal.
-He's dealing with a lot of off-field stuff in his inner circle and personal life that is taking up his primary attention
-He's going to continue having his personal life as the primary focus

The Steelers would be wise to move on. Rodgers doesn't sound like someone committed to playing, and if he's not 100% committed, he's going to be a liability.

I'm watching this now, I'm definitely revisiting my idea that we imposed any hard or soft deadlines on him since he's basically saying he's not ready to sign anywhere right now due to some personal issues.

Edit: He was asked directly this question about deadlines and just said the Steelers gave him no deadlines.

Him describing his exit with the Jets was very interesting though and I can see why he was a little bit disgruntled.

Lol at him sneaking into the practice facility in a Chevy Malibu . Wanted to be super discreet. Spoke highly of Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith and Tom Arth our QB coach. Said he wanted to experience what "life would be like in Pittsburgh".

Ok now he's talking about DK Metcalf and wanting to do his due diligence.

McAfee asked him point blank is he gonna sign with PIT and he deflected to the stuff in his personal life. "Wants to keep the lines of communication open. The people who need to know, know". I still think he's going to sign here, just not till like June mandatory minicamp.

Rodgers is kind of impossible to read but if there’s legitimately some serious personal stuff, you can’t hate on the guy for taking his time to make a decision. And it sounds like he was up front about it.

Yeah just after watching the last bit, I think he's going to sign here and that seems to be the consensus of the guys on the show. Just the amount of due diligence and praise he showed to the Steelers specifically was notable.

Now that doesn't necessarily mean we won't draft a QB, I just don't think that's going to factor into the decision for either parties.

I'm not going to play psychologist but he seemed legitimately pissed at the narrative that he was holding anyone hostage.

"Personal issues" could mean a lot of things, including just not feeling well mentally. He definitely has a right to not sign anywhere right away.

However, it's just odd, the way the Steelers brass all assuredly stated that the signs were pointing towards them signing Rodgers when here he is stating that he doesn't have a timeline or commitment to even play. It just reads like a collection of people who have no clue what's going on and don't even have a read on their own situation.

I don't know where you're getting this narrative from. The only public acknowledgment about Rodgers from the Steelers brass was Mike Tomlin at the annual owners meeting last month basically stating that yes, Rodgers came in for a visit and it was a productive meeting but there was no further update to provide at this time.
