OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

I went with Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State. This team for years has needed a quick twitch guy with some speed that can play in the slot. Parrish can play outside as well.

He can learn a thing or two from Slay and compete with Trice.
That'd be my pick.

I'm also a massive proponent of not f***ing up our comp picks for next year with signings. Those picks>>>anyone we sign
IDK if you're referring to Rodgers, but he wouldn't count towards the comp pick formula as he was released by the Jets.

Also the quote above reminds me of this text exchange between the two lol

Why else wouldn't he have signed? The Steelers are the only team that have waited him out and he still hasn't signed. What does that tell you? Dude doesn't want to play here.

He's lukewarm at best on playing here and the Steelers - like a friendzoned fat kid who thinks his luck can change - is waiting for the girl to give him a pity f***.

It's pathetic honestly - have some pride and save your money. Draft a kid, move on.

I still think Rodgers wants to drag this out until that Pat McAfee show in Pittsburgh on I think April 9th. It fits his ego and self promoting ways.

Interesting metaphor, but I kind of see the situation more like closing time at a bar on the South Side. Rodgers is no longer the hot chick, he's the 45 year old MILF whose looks have faded, but is probably still a good time. We both wish we could hook up with someone hotter, but it's getting late and Mario's staff is telling us to leave. Do you want to get laid or not?

So it's fine when other teams have mountains of dead cap, but it's not fine when Khan might have overpaid a couple of guys? :dunno:

The issue isn't the pay.

The issue is they were relied upon to be difference makers and they weren't.

If a team has enough difference makers, it doesn't matter how much dead cap they have. Yeah there's usually a correlation between avoiding it and affording those guys, but ultimately it's about getting those guys and setting them up to succeed.

It mostly hasn't happened with second contracts in Khan's era and that's not fine to good. It's not a pass mark. Maybe things will improve but until they do, that's how it is.

Looked at 3 mocks today. All 3 had us taking Dart at 21. They were CBS, NFL.com, and Athlon.

Dulac seems pretty insistent they aren’t taking a QB in round one…we’ll see

I think most of the beat reporters are. Maybe it's a smokescreen, but it feels more like the national guys are just spitballing 2+2 without paying attention to movements.

If Jeremiah's/Brugler's next mocks have a QB to the Steelers, I'll feel a lot more uncertain.

Or maybe he is 41 and isn’t ready to commit yet. The guy went to eqypt last season in ota let him get that stuff done before he commits

Dude, the fact you shrug at that kind of crap simply because your boy Mikey wants Rodgers to be here is some serious rationalization. If you don't see the issues with this, you ruin any credibility you may otherwise possess.

I am not pressed one way or the other. They already have contract parameters in place. If he doesn’t sign then go with mason and the day 3 qb. If he signs i want him all in when they go to camp

I don’t agree with it at all but honestly at this point don’t even care if they take a QB in the first

if you don’t have a QB in this league you do gotta keep throwing shit at the wall until something works, and works in a big way.

Was waiting for the incentives in Wilson's contract to become public. I think most of these are pretty attainable besides the playoff wins component. We want him to hit as many of these thresholds so it factors into our 2026 comp pick formula.

• Russell Wilson’s 1-year, $10.5 million deal includes an $8 million signing bonus, $2 million fully guaranteed and a $500,000 workout bonus. Then there are a ton of incentives for performance and playing time.

• Wilson can make up to $2.5 million in play-time incentives. If he plays 65% of the snaps he'll get $500,000. He'll get an extra million if he plays 75% of the snaps and $1.5 million for 85%.

• The contract includes up to $2.5 million in performance incentives. He'll get $500,000 if he has a passer rating above 96.0 and $500,000 for a 64%+ completion percentage. He's also able to earn $500,000 if he throws 20+ touchdowns and has a passer rating over 88. Then another $250,000 if he throws 30+ touchdowns with a passer rating of over 88. He can also earn $500,000 if he throws for over 2,500 yards with a passer rating of 88+ and yet another $250,000 if he throws for more than 3,500 yards with a passer rating over 88.

• If Wilson leads the Giants to the playoffs he can earn up to $2.5 million in playoff incentives. If he plays 55% of the snaps and the Giants make the playoffs, he'll get another $750,000. If he plays 75% of the snaps and the Giants make the playoffs he'll get $1.5 million. If he plays 55% of the snaps and the Giants win a playoff game he'll add another $500,000. A second playoff win will earn him an extra $500,000.

• Finally, he can get up to $3 million in win incentives. For any game where he plays more than 50% of the snaps and the Giants win he'll get another $176,470.59.

Don't get me wrong, I have been pounding the table for the Steelers to more aggressively churn their roster, especially the QB position. I was willing to overpay for Fields when he was in Chicago. And past failures (Pickett) should not effect our risk appetite in the future.

But taking a QB's in the 20's is already such a poor gamble, historically speaking. It's got to be like a 10% hit rate. And doing it in two of the worst QB draft classes in recent memory? The Steelers don't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore, but surely they have done some advance scouting on next years draft class and they can see it projects to be much deeper.

I completely, completely, vehemently, overwhelmingly agree with you.

But I just can’t get myself worked up about it. It’s kinda like “whatever, wake me up when they have a QB. I guess they’re trying”

In a similar vein, part of me is thinking taking Dart at 21 is probably the quickest and least damaging end to Tomlin's time here. Like either I believe that no, he really can find and develop a franchise QB with Smith, Tom Arth, and Weidl around... or I don't, in which case why not get his second first round QB out of the way quick and cheap rather than waiting for him to screw up expensively?

Which is a pretty negative thing to think. But, when I got there, I do end up thinking whatever about it. This post brought to you by the spirit of grunge.

Yep, 15 years ago he was money, how about now?

Right, but in general AR will go down as one of the more accurate passes in history.

I should have also mentioned that I'd consider the following QB's as more accurate than Drew Brees:

Manning
Brady
Warner
AR

Maybe there are others that don't come to mind, but Brees is AT BEST #5. Certainly not #1.
