OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Off Season We dont need a QB Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Too run heavy. Running far too much on 1st downs. Gameplan is very predictable. One of the things RW rebelled about. Can't imagine AR putting up with that nonsense either.
Well Ar strength is way different than RW. Rodgers wants to be in run heavy play action offense. He is also capable of making every throw which RW can’t. Rodgers used a lot of tge same stuff smith likes in Greenbay under Lefauer
Mason is a better fit for smith offense because AR isn’t going to stand ln the pocket anymore

If we keep GP we are set at WR. Metcalf, Pickens, Roman and CA3, not bad if Wilson grasps the playbook.. If we can get a quality CB in rd 3 I'd be thrilled. We're not deep enough there. Plus Slay could mentor him. :thumbu:
Cb or RB in the 3rd development qb in the 4th

They're letting him dictate the time table and the how and why. That's not what a blueblood of the NFL should be doing. Particularly for a 41 yr old who's seen better days. I agree with Heyward, either you wanna be here or you don't. Not sure how or why that opinion should be polarizing.
He's not holding them hostage. I don't think they are standing around with bated breath waiting for him. I think he can kind of take it or leave it. The organization is moving forward regardless and at least have someone to throw the ball.

When a team leader like Heyward speaks up about AR and he’s angry, you know it’s not a healthy situation the Steelers are in.

Call it being held hostage, or strung along - the verbiage doesn’t matter.

The Steelers ultra incompetence over the years has put them in this situation.

Now Tomlin feels so desperate that he and the org are now the bitch of some washed 41 yr old QB.

Of course with it being a crazy f*** like AR. there is word that he secretly paid them a visit to test if there would be leaks about his visit - because he has a huge pet peeve about that stuff.

So Dulac may have saved this franchise from themselves with his leak about AR visit.

Cam has clarified his statement on 2 separate podcasts. He isn’t angry if AR signs he will be happy. He said he isn’t going to do anything special to recruit or convince him to sign. Cam says TJ himself and Minka don’t have years to wait they need to have urgency to win now in the playoffs. DK GP Ca3 and AR gives them the best chance. He said the team is also ok with Mason if he is the week 1 starter. I do find it interesting that the jets who have not won a playoff game since Sanchez were considered sb contenders with him and we would not be playoff contenders

I kinda chuckle whenever someone says "they run the ball too much!!1" as if the team that just won the Super Bowl didn't have the most rushing attempts and fewest passing attempts in the league. If you look at the best offenses in the league now, the only team that is pass happy is the Bungles. The rest are run heavy or at least balanced.

Predictable? Absolutely. Overly conservative when they do pass the ball? 100%. Some personnel issues? Sure. How often they are running the ball, though? Not necessarily. There are certain examples of it, like the second Bungles game, but on the whole, that's not the real issue.

Pittsburgh skipped Michigan’s pro day to roll out the red carpet for Rodgers.

So much for the HFboard narrative that the Steelers arent just waiting around for Rodgers.

They didn’t skip the pro day. TA the dc was in person you do know that the only person who went to fantuna pro day last year was the o line coach and they still drafted him

For like the 1,000th time on the held hostage thing, hostage from what? Signing Wentz?

If people want to criticize them for mishandling Fields, whatever. I don't really agree, but I can understand why someone might think that. With Rodgers, though, from what reporting there is on it, it seems like they are handling it fine. They have a 1-year, take it or leave it offer on the table. There's no need to get it done in March. They have Rudolph and there are plenty of backup QBs still available (Wentz, Lock, Flacco, Bridgewater, Huntley, etc.) if Rodgers doesn't sign.

I will say, if Rodgers, who very clearly wants to play another year, who's only option seems to be the Steelers, visits them and says, "You know what? Nevermind. I'm going to retire," THAT would be pretty damning for the Steelers. I'm like 99% sure he ends up signing, though. Probably sometime this week.

Rodgers has a standing offer from the giants and Steelers. He could decide to wait until an injury happens in august to sign. Maybe he has a trip planned and wants to enjoy his summer. No rush on his part

Do you think sign Rudolph and hope for the best was the plan for this team heading into the off season? This cocky, ignorant organization just assumed Fields would re-sign, and had no plan B.

Mickey mouse organization.

The perception around the league which has been widely reported by multiple reputable sources is that AR's preference would be to go to MIN. Rightly or wrongly that bein the case it makes Pittsburgh look like we're 2hd or 3rd choice. Behind the scenes it could be different, but that's how it comes across. Does it make sense to pursue someone who's heart may not be in it? It looks desperate IMO. And I'm far from the only one who sees it that way. Not that that in and of itself makes me right or wrong. But if you're not someone's 1st choice, particularly at the most important position on the field, what are we doin here?

I'll up offer that I might be jaded a bit after the Aiyuk saga of last year. We never aptly replaced that position. Maybe not the same this year, but has a similar vibe to it.

We are too conservative and too predictable. We're risk averse to the an obnoxious level.

Right, but his preference wouldn't be either of those two. So we're at best sloppy seconds.

Heyward knows AR is embarrassing the org, he understands the optics going on and he got angry and spoke out.

I’m sure he regretted not towing the company line and realized his words made the org look even more foolish, so he tried to dial things back and do damage control.

TJ and the gang aren’t winning a SB this year or any year under Tomlin - their best use to help this org is to be traded for picks to help a rebuild.

People again like to live in their delusions though, and not just fans, but players as well.

AR joining this team means the same as Fields or Rudolph or Russ at the helm - mediocre year with no playoff win.

None of this matters in the end - I wanted Fields away from this team so I got my wish - Dulac may have saved the day and made AR mad and he won’t sign - so I’ll be happy about that as well.

Me getting what I hoped for doesn’t change the fact this once legendary org is now a laughingstock being rejected by the rejects of the worst teams in the league.

Mickey mouse organization.

Beat writers have already said the Steelers were taken by surprise that Fields didn’t want to stay and take a “Tomlin Discount.”

I can’t believe that’s even a thing they concocted in their heads, but sure… cool.

It’s funny and disturbing at the same time how little self-awareness they have about how this org is now perceived around the league.

Imagine losing out on Fields to the Jets and now a 41 year old QB might choose retirement or play for the lowly Gmen over coming here.

People can spin it however they want but the absolute perception here is that Rodgers is hoping for Minnesota and is keeping the Steelers on the back burner to see if that pans out. What an embarrassing place to be as an organization being the sloppy seconds for a washed up drama queen.
100%! My sentiments exactly.

This.

Yeah, in practical terms it doesn't really matter.

But it still stinks as a place to be. Hell, the reason it doesn't matter is it's all the bottom of the barrel here anyway, and obviously it's great to be reminded of that.

Fans don’t like the raw truth about where this org is - it’s a huge part of fandom to make excuses that things aren’t that bad, so it’s easier to follow a hopeless team.

“If they just do this or that in the draft and maybe AR comes here and finds some old magic and Tomlin stops being Tomlin and..!”

Once you free yourself from that burden it’s really not hard to see they have hit rock bottom like you said.

We just have to wait it out until AR2 is tired of his legendary org being a laughingstock.
