Hindsight, he felt he was doing everyone a favor, but it just made everything worse. Colbert lost his mojo after 2012, which I'm almost 100% sure that is when they started doing 1 year deals with him.
You cannot have someone in a sports organization with one foot in and one foot out. It doesn't work that way...at least not to be successful.
Don't think you can lay this entirely on 1 person's feet. Colbert was driving the bus but Tomlin had his hand on the wheel influencing (ie Devin Bush). Plus, this goes back to my development commentary. Not many people on the list that Tomlin has developed in the past 10 years. But I can surely list a ton of guys that cratered after a good rookie season. That's a major problem that is being overlooked.
