Holy shit! We finally found a WR lol. It's over, it's finally over *frodo gif*

At first blush, I think a 2nd and a late round pick swap for DK is fair considering he needed a new contract.

About the contract, 5/150 is pretty f***ing massive, need to see the guarantees but that puts him on par with ARSB, Tyreek and Aiyuk in terms of AAV at 30m per. Only JJeff, Lamb, AJB and soon to be Chase making more. That's probably fair for where he stacks up, got to pay a slight premium signing these guys.

Having to part with that 2nd round pick sucks since I really think that is the sweet spot to take a RB, but you have to give to get I guess so not terribly disappointed.

I like this in the context of them needing to eventually extend GP without knowing for sure if he was worth it, and not being sure if GP+rookie was going to be enough.

Now they have their physical freak enigma X locked up long term -for better or worse- and can afford to either squeeze one more year out of GP or trade him to recoup the 2nd (or more?).

High pick and a top 5 contract for a guy who is not even a top 20 WR. And doesn’t complement the other WR in the room. You have 2 guys with avg route running/separation ability and focus issues now.

Just do not get this franchise at all man.

Yeah he’s certainly not a dominant number one. I think Pickens’ days are numbered though.

Attacking WR via FA made the most sense with this relatively weak WR draft class, but that group skewed a bit older. Metcalf at 27 years old is in his athletic prime and realistically will be for at least the next 3-4 seasons.

Arthur Smith clearly has a type of WR that he likes, going back to his Tennessee days and it is DK Metcalf . Big dudes that can block and dominate at the point of the catch. Just repeating some of what Kozora is tweeting about, but the vertical threat of Pickens-Metcalf on the outside is really going to force teams to play two high safety against us. This should hopefully open up the run game in a big way.

Just need a QB to throw the ball now lol. And a RB to replace Najee (looking more like the 3rd round now).

Definitely possible.. but I feel like then you are looking to fill the same hole that plagued them last season.

Idk. I’m usually not so sullen immediately but I feel like this shows that the team truly likes where they are at as a org - despite having no franchise QB or proven infrastructure to elevate talent.

I don’t clown on this trade if it’s the Eagles or Belichick/Brady or Chiefs or even McConnell’s Vikings. But us? Don’t feel like this is the move.

Hope I’m wrong.

I think it's fair to criticize the organization for complacency (among other things), no argument from me there. But trading for and paying premium $$$ to an offensive playmaker is a big departure from the Steelers usual MO.

I posted this already, but I'm firmly convinced that they'll be drafting a QB after paying DK because they simply won't have money to also pay a QB. I'm really interested in seeing their draft strategy if they end up doing that. Maybe they go DL in free agency as well and take a QB round 1 and a RB in round 3.

I can be wrong and they end up signing Darnold in free agency, but I think drafting a QB is much more likely. Not seeing where they money for DK, Pickens, Darnold and Watt is coming from.

You know, I was about to ask "I'm very curious for what this means for Pickens, I can't imagine they have the money to keep him and DK", but a rebuttal to that: you absolutely have the money to pay Pickens and DK if you have a QB on a rookie deal.

I'm inclined to believe more and more that Wilson's their guy for next year and they draft their QB of the future this year with this move. I don't think you pay DK Metcalf $33 million a year so Justin Fields is his QB.
Or they go with JF and build a Rpo quick slant post passing game for a year and draft a Qb in 26. This season is about getting everything in place for the trade up in 26. They can trade down from 21 and pick up a 3rd to help off set the loss of a 2nd and still get cam replacement in round 1.
If they bring Najee back they can draft a rb in round 4

I feel like darnold will bust if he comes here. That will be a long term contract that flops.I don’t want Russ period. I don’t like the qbs this draft. I know we’re gonna screw this up.

Is DK Metcalf a top 10 receiver?

Over the past two seasons, Metcalf is No. 15 in the league in receiving yards (2,106), tied for No. 20 in receiving touchdowns (13) and No. 40 in receptions (132).

Yeah, but he's none of those things....

Wait.. wait… you mean giving a long term deal to a QB who will be on his 5th team in the last 6 years is a bad idea?

I think this makes it much less likely they'll draft a QB since they've already lost their 2nd rounder and they will want more than 1 pick in the top 3 rounds to be guys who hit the positions of need - DL and CB - they are looking to fill. Guess we'll see. Maybe Shough in the 3rd or 4th but can't see much else.

They are apparently looking to fill the CB need in free agency, not the draft. DL is most likely going to be filled in the draft, but CB is going to be a FA target. Dulac said in a chat session a few days ago that CB is a free agency target only.

I think not having a round 2 pick means they won't be targeting a RB in the draft, they'll probably look at FA for that.

Which brings us back to Najaee lol
They will sign a cb 2 and NB. I feel pretty confident Hobbs will be the Nb. Trice and Bishop will be depth guys.
I can see a trade down and i could see a ca3 trade

I think the money is definitely there if they want, although I don’t think a Pickens extension is in the cards. I don’t know what the structure of Metcalf’s deal is, but the cap hits for him and a Watt extension should be reasonable for a couple years.
