OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

Yeah not to defend keeping Holcomb, I have the same concern, but I figure it's more about Wilson getting a more significant role going forward. I imagine that Queen and Wilson are the 2 primarily ILBs while Holcomb is the backup, and he'll be cut if he can't perform at that level.
If I had to make sense of it, they probably think Holcomb is enough insurance against the run to fill in for Wilson, if necessary, and better against the pass than Roberts in case either Queen or Wilson get hurt.

I just think his injuries are too much to overcome. Dudes' played 15 games the last 3 seasons, including missing all of last year. I don't know of a whole of guys that come back the same from something like that.

That’s a decent sized drop for Kenneth Grant. He’s a popular guy mocked to the Steelers, but I don’t know if I love that write up on him.

Yeah I definitely clocked that. My first read was pretty much scan reading, and seeing what was happening with the QBs. Sanders dropping from 15 to 18 isn't a colossal fall but it's enough that I think we're seeing a definite post-combine dip and I think the possibility of him being there around 10 is now pretty live.

But I also clocked Grant's fall. Ditto Nolen. Very similar write ups. Fantastic athletes, sometimes fantastic results, you're getting a project. Harmon looks like the safe DL around 21. I think he'd be my choice if the board falls like that.

Something else interesting is Jeremiah now pushing the first wave of WRs ahead of 21, and in a draft where a lot of the big talent is at non-premium positions and WR feels thin after the first wave, I think there's a good chance that's how it goes on draft day too. Which pushes sign a FA WR even more imo.

Barron is Brian Branch 2.0. I would love for us to land him.

These draft boards are insane. Will Johnson and McMillan are getting closer and closer to 21 for no apparent reason.

That read out on Kenneth Grant from Jeremiah wasn't great, but I think for what we need him for, he's elite right now. They can coach up pass rushing and things like that. Grant is a baller. I still think Alfred Collins offers more value for us.

They need a DT who brings it in the pass game as much as they need one for rush defence tho. I know you're getting both out of the gate but 4.5 sacks from all DL not called Heyward is part of the problem and they need to work on that as much as they do just getting a big old unit.

Interesting statistical profile. That reads as a bit nuts paying that for no TDs, but he did really well with the successful play metric and nearly half his targets went for first downs. How much is moving the chains worth?

I imagine he'll regress a bit there, but then he's probably going to regress back to getting TDs too.

In any case though, yeah, the prices will be high. 50m of cap increase in two seasons is one hell of a drug...

Unless Wilson gets significantly better at playing the run, that'd worry me.

Problem is he's also better when he's not the ILB closest to the line. I can back the idea they'd be better with Holcomb having the green dot if healthy but, in this scenario, it just reads to me like they'd be better off without Queen.
Queen was everything he was in Bmore and the ravens took the dot from him to let hit him run and hit no need to communicate

If the Steelers end up regretting this, there should be a lot of criticism.

edit: Shough in for a pre-draft visit.

Omar's patience to make moves is a bit frustrating.

He’s definitely waiting on the QB shoe to drop. I get the idea behind wanting to bring in receivers that fit the QB, but I also don’t think any QB they end up with is good enough where that matters.

I think Kirk makes too much money for one good year, I'd rather just draft Egbuka. Save the money for CB, QB, and a vet like Slayton who might come at half the price of Kirk.
