OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

Yes they changed game-plan thats a completely different discussion. RW was playing like rookie down the stretch and was treated as such. Isn’t it interesting the Steelers or Raiders don’t want RW. If he can’t convince the Giants to pay him he might be jobless

This makes no sense - you always try to dance around Tomlin being culpable for the mess this org has become.

Tomlin is the one who brought in Wilson.

Tomlin is the one who decided to start Wilson mid-season.

Tomlin is the one who kept him as the starter as the team went on a five game slide to end the season.

If you can’t trust a QB who has played 13 years in the league to audible, why is he starting?

He was still audibling even in the playoff loss he wasn’t doing it well theres a reason RW is going to be on his 3rd team in 3 years. Tomlin is stubborn and went with 13 year starter who won a sb over the high end backup and the sb winning qb blew up in his face. It’s not like JF was going to win the playoff game

Ya, they would lose in the playoffs no matter who the starter is, because Tomlin is the coach - that’s a given, like the sun will rise every morning.

That doesn’t change the reality that Tomlin stuck with RW, despite protests from his staff - because he’s arrogant and never fears being held accountable.

That decision helped sink the team down the stretch and cost them a division title.

As I’ve explained to you again and again, he’s a poor Xs and Os guy, he constantly makes brain dead decisions, and he hasn’t developed any legit talent outside of Watt the last decade.

So this isn’t really about Wilson - all roads lead back to Tomlin, the root cause of this org failures.

It didn’t matter who was Qb but might as well go with the SB winning Qb last season. Next season sure go with Fields and have a solid backup option because he will get hurt and miss time and struggle but he is only 26 and should be cheap

If Fields isn't the starter I'm going to be really disappointed.

I didn't think the Garrett situation was serious, but it apparently is. They will have a metric shit-ton of picks. I'd imagine Cam Ward and a WR will be two of them.

We should be picking weapons out of this draft, but maybe we use this draft to get cheaper on defense so we can spend more money on offense. There are day 1 starters probably up until the 3rd round defensively in this draft. DL maybe further than that.

I don't ever see us flipping TJ, Minkah, or Highsmith. We know Cam is here. So this thing is going to be built organically. I still think trying to back up and get more picks is our best option.

KC has some extra picks - I'm wondering if 21 and Queen could back us up to 31 and get us another 2 and 3?

NFL Draft Implications Taking Shape

As teams digest the combine results and continue their pro day evaluations, several storylines will dominate draft discussions:

The quarterback hierarchy remains unchanged at the top with Ward and Sanders, but the next tier of passers failed to create separation, leaving teams needing QB help outside the top picks in a challenging position.

The offensive tackle position lacks consensus, with Campbell's measurement concerns, Membou's rising stock, and questions about which prospect truly deserves the OT1 designation. Teams like the Patriots (No. 4), Jets (No. 7), Bears (No. 10) and Dolphins (No. 13) all need tackle help, creating intrigue for the first round.

The exceptional depth at running back could influence draft strategy, with teams potentially waiting on the position knowing quality options will be available throughout the draft. Will Ashton Jeanty buck the trend with an early selection, or will teams prioritize other positions in the first round?

The defensive back class features impressive athletes like Hairston, Emmanwori and Barron, but the absence of Hunter and Johnson in drills leaves teams still needing to evaluate the top prospects at their pro days.

Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter's medical examination revealed a foot injury that might require surgery, potentially impacting his status as a potential No. 1 overall pick contender.

The 2025 combine has reshaped draft conversations across the league, with unexpected winners like Missouri's Armand Membou and Kentucky's Maxwell Hairston forcing teams to reconsider their boards. Meanwhile, medical concerns for Penn State's Abdul Carter and measurement issues for LSU's Will Campbell create fascinating dilemmas for teams holding top-10 picks. The historically deep running back and defensive line classes will likely dominate the middle rounds, while quarterback-needy teams beyond the top picks face difficult decisions with no clear third option emerging after Ward and Sanders. As team visits and pro days unfold in the coming weeks, the athletic freaks who dominated in Indianapolis will try to prove that their eye-popping numbers translate to football skills worthy of the draft capital they're now positioned to command.

Tomlin loves him some Queen so there's no way they are trading him away. Plus KC is a bit pressed against the cap so doubtful they could even take him on.

WR needy teams should be calling the Steelers about Pickens. He's cheap and talented. I have also heard the reports about Steelers wanting to extend him, but if a good offer comes along....

I think we have a starting NT, WR, and RB out of this draft with the strong outside shot of getting a starting CB.

I am hoping some team goes crazy for him, but I really can't see with this WR class anyone going out and making a crazy offer for him. I do wonder if a team would overpay with 2026 picks though for him. I'd consider that because we are going to have the clearest picture of what we have after this season. 2026 draft is in Pittsburgh.

I frequent a local establishment with a variety of football fans, and this one guy who is the eternal Steelers optimist (Tomlin hater!) says that 2026 lines up for the Steelers - if this team bombs, they are going to have to do something with Tomlin. If they can get a bunch of 2026 picks with the draft in Pittsburgh, Art2 uses that as a podium to retire and hand the reigns to DMR. I always love some good conspiracy theory football offseason talk

I forgot that Teryl Austin was Darius Slay’s DC in Detroit… I feel like we’ve got to be the favorites to sign him. Joe Haden/Patrick Peterson part 3.
He’s 34 years old…move on. They should sign someone like DJ Reed, not a declining CB…but these type of failures are typical for the cheap Steelers

Yeah between that plus his comments about wanting to play for Tomlin, I'd be surprised for them to not sign him. I'm not crazy about going after a 34 year old CB, but the dude can objectively still play.

I have also read the Giants will want a veteran QB to pair with Ward if they do this, but I think this probably takes them out of Wilson.

I was wondering if that chick's tweet had anything to do with DMR taking over this year?

You can always use CB depth. So I’m not concerned.

That's my thought. Is it the worse thing if Slay comes in and plays for a couple of years PLUS they draft a guy in this draft?

You need 3 boundary CB's to make it through a full season. Steelers only have 1 right now (JPJ).

Brugler’s mock today had Sanders falling to the Steelers. I can’t really see that happening and have no idea how I’d feel about it.

He also said as of now it doesn’t seem like teams will be eager to spend day two picks to move up in a “relatively light first round”

That both seems like great value for the Steelers while it also drafts a player I don't like. I'm really not a fan of Sanders.

Yeah kinda how I feel too. He tries act like his dad but I don’t know if he’ll have the talent to back it up.

And just as a player he seems kinda…meh.

I would take a flyer on Sanders if he drops out of the first round…I dont think he’s going to be all that good
