Steelers started the game down 2 DB's.
Ravens started the game without 2 WR's and another was questionable (Bateman played).

Not saying it WASN"T a factor, but at some point the excuses for Tomlin have to stop. There's an injury excuse card for nearly every game in the NFL. Look at the teams we beat this year with significant issues on the health front. It cuts both ways.
The ravens also have a 2 time mvp at Qb Flowers is better than any wr we dressed on Saturday

The Ravens stopped running the ball last time. I even commented that they themselves froze Henry out inexplicably. He was getting 5 yards a pop but only got 13 carries.

Hill only got 2 carries but ripped them for big gains on each.

That's misleading, though. Nearly half of his yards (31) came on 1 carry. Outside of that, he was averaging 2.8. They legitimately did a good job on him the first time.

Saturday, though, he was routinely gashing them for 10+ yards.

Porter went out in the first quarter and one of those two WR for the Ravens you are equating to the Steelers injuries had 1 catch for 6 yards for them the entire time he was with them. Again, the defense isn’t playing well and the coaching is concerning but injuries were a factor. Both can be true at the same time

And to me, the effectiveness of Henry comes at around carries 17-20 when the defenses get tired of bringing this guy down.

In meeting #1, I felt they went away from both Lamar (he had a very decent day running too) and Henry way too early bc they got down and decided to throw it a ton (which is what the Rats don't want him to do).

They made themselves one dimensional from about the 2nd quarter on. Kudos to the Steelers defense in that meeting bc as you said they limited him. But I think it was partially self inflicted by Monken. I don't think they were going to make that mistake again, even if they got stuffed early.

Turns out they didn't need to find out.

Guess I'm more annoyed at myself for getting Charlie Brown'd when Lucy pulled the football away from me yet again. I was finding myself less frustrated with Tomlin this year bc he seemed to have finally steered the ship correctly. Sure he his gameday f***ups continued but he seemed to have evolved a little offensively with hiring Smith.

His defense didn't have to suffer without Watt so perhaps it looked better than it appeared.
So again, shame on me for not recognizing the mirage that is a Tomlin lead team

I need to go back to my pessimistic version where the best thing that could have happened this year was not a fool's gold season where the Steelers punch above their weight only to get f'n embarrassed in the playoffs once again -- where nothing is learned, nothing is gained except some empty calorie regular season wins that make us feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside -- but instead would have been to bottom out for the rebuild this team desperately needs may --may-- have been onto something.

This, hopefully without being too much of a told you so, is why I have constantly been "lets wait until they play someone great" all season. I know Tomlinball can do a superb job of winning against so-so teams. It's taking the next step that eludes the Steelers.

And hey, maybe they'd have done so without the injuries. Maybe they get fit for the playoffs and make some noise. These last two games do not define the season. But at this point, don't assume it's going to happen until it does.

It's also possible that next summer they have another good round of recruitment and it starts to come true. Right now the biggest problem with this team is it just doesn't have enough talent. They walked into this season with a few gaping holes that everyone knew would cause problems. It's possible to avoid that this coming season, I think.

Pittsburgh
In my opinion the best thing for this team would be to lose to KC, Baltimore beats Houston, and then hope the Baltimore/Cleveland games is a 1PM start and Pittsburgh/Cincinnati is a 4PM start. You could then potentially go into the 4PM time slot locked as the 5th seed and be able to rest everyone for Houston round 1. Though knowing the NFL they will probably put these games in the same time slot.

I think Houston is the best matchup out of basically anyone else, even being at home. Plus if you win the division you have to go to Buffalo round 2 (assuming they both win.) Which is a guarantee loss. They would have a better chance in KC.

I mean I’m with you in that I don’t think it matters whether they have a home playoff game in the Wild Card…they’ve lost those both at home and on road under Tomlin…they can win or lose that game regardless…they will not win in Buffalo or KC however lol

You would still take Fautanu over BTJ? If they were to do a redraft BTJ would be the first WR off the board.
I take a stud LT over a WR 10/10 times. Just the positional value alone.

Having these mock redrafts a season afterwards is a dumb game to play anyway. Thomas could very well be a flash in the pan. Time will tell.

I kinda expect them to go heavy in the off season because of RW. They have a window and cap space plus you can wait until 26 to draft the qb

26 is a way better year anyway and if the wheels are going to fall off, they will be more off the wagon then versus now.

Iirc, the Chargers have two cupcakes left, so if they don't beat Kansas the possibility of sliding out of that 5th seed is real.

Certainly doesn't define the season, but it's definitely on brand for Tomlin to lose games when the opponents have more talent than his guys.

When is the last time Tomlin beat a team that had a clearly superior talent differential?

Because doing so requires superior coaching and a superior plan, and Tomlin thinks football is just about beating the man in front of you

Not counting AFC North, where things are weird, the opener vs Buffalo in 2021 or so... yeah, 2021. Steelers block a punt and force Allen into an awful throwing day by getting continuous pressure on 4 man rushes (despite being on the field for 33 minutes). Weird game.

That said... how often does any team go around beating those with superior talent differentials? I think the big thing for me with Tomlin is how ugly it looks - he's rarely even the team ending one score down in a 22-16 game or something, he's usually the guy getting keelhauled 33-16. But the former is still a loss.

Which is why come the end of the season, I will care a lot more about whether I think the kids came forward and made the team stronger than the results.

I thought vegas said we were the worst team in tge division with the worst Qb in the division and they still control their destiny in the division

If we beat Cincinnati who season could end this Saturday against Denver we guarantee no less than the 5th seed.
If we beat Cincinnati and Cleveland beats bmore we win the division even if we lose to kc

I don't know what I hate more - games being on Christmas or games being on streaming services.

Either way I won't be watching tomorrow. It's probably saving me a good amount of grief, but it still makes me grumpy.

Just unacceptable that this is where they are at this point of the season.

To be fair Elliot handles the communication and they had trice playing who looked like the rookie he is. Wilson still learning which why i am interested in Holcomb returning and taking the green dot from Queen

Yeah, all I see are rookies running around.

It worked so hard in my favor. I have family as my house and they all love the Steelers and plan on watching. It is built in time I don't have to entertain.

I hate myself for encouraging the NFL's bullshit by watching this, but I do want to know what happens. So far, not a lot good, but at this point that's just traditional.
