Cousins has to agree to the trade due to having a NTC. Which he probably won't accept because then it won't allow him to specifically decide where to go.

If he is on the roster March 17th, he gets a 10mil roster bonus for the 2026 season. So whoever trades for him is going to sign up for the 27.5mil for 2025 and 10mil for 2026. In QB world that is not alot of money for a starter.

They could also keep him on the roster for 2025 as a backup. But then they are on the hook for an additional 10mil due to the roster bonus for 2026. Then they could cut him and designate him as a post June 1st (Each team gets two of those a year) before 2026. That would leave them with a 17.5mil cap hit for 2026 and 17.5mil cap hit for 2027.

If they go the Russell Wilson route and cut him and designate him as a Post June 1st cut, he will cost 40mil for 2025 and 25mil for 2026.

The other issue in this is, who actually would want Cousins even at his 27,5mil caphit if they traded for him. Looking at the teams that could maybe be interested in him as a starter.....Jets, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Saints.......That's it.

If the Standings stay the same, the Raiders and Giants are going to draft a QB. And the Giants already have a huge cap charge with Jones. The Jets and Browns have cap hell with their two starters. That leaves the Titans, looks like they have benched Levis. And the Saints...who will have a cap hell with Carr and may just want to suck for 2025 to choose a new QB for 2026.

I think the Falcons cut him as a post June 1st designation because nobody wants to trade for him. He hasn't been good this season and is old. He will have to go the Russell Wilson route and I could see him signing in Cleveland or the Jets.

For a team like Titans, I can see them going with Darnold or maybe even Fields.

IMO, Cousins is going to have to decide whether he wants to play for a reduced rate, 10mil or under or just retire.
The question will be does a team like the 49ers prefer Kirk at 27 million or paying 55 million to Purdy

He hasn’t practiced they have done walk throughs and JJ said he is walking better each day on macafee today
I could see him be on snap count trying to win the division but playing Herbig and Highsmith 70 percent of the snaps

They both are really solid #2 backs. My two new table pounds are going to be for a dynamic RB and a NT. I think those are our biggest needs. We have a whole 3rd round pick that hasn't played an entire season, again, for the 2nd year, for some reason.
It’s still cb and DL top 2 draft needs

I think Najaee would be better on a team with better play makers look at Jacobs in Greenbay going from Vegas

Allegedly came to camp out of shape and was injured and then injured again is the reason.

Purdy still has one more year on his contract and then they could easily Transition Tag or Franchise Tag him.

By the time Purdy starts making money Cousins will be like 38. Purdy will be 27.

Plus Cousins is cooked.

Sign me up. Wilson would be perfect for this team. The issue is that he is due a contract as well as GP. So are the Steelers going to sign both.

They could 5th year option Wilson for some certainty for 2026.

He would cost a 1st round pick. Maybe alittle more. At this point, I would trade the 26th pick for Wilson. Issue is, if Wilson is available, I think a team like the Chargers will outbid the Steelers.

Purdy isn’t about to play for whatever his contract is next season. He literally saw Aiyuk Debo Williams Bosa all sit out camp and got paid
He wants a Jordan Love 55 million a year contract

Purdy can negotiate the 55m a year contract with tons of guarantees and also still play on his current cap number - or a small amount above it - this coming season.

Even if he wants money now in line with Love/Lawrence/Tua/Herbert/Goff whoever - the first year of his contract is still going to be less than Cousins gets next year.

Not to mention Purdy has a decade ahead of him and has continued to show he's a successful QB even in an absolute nightmare year in SF, while Cousins might have one last year left in him at most if that. It is inconceivable to me that a team would pick Cousins over Purdy in that situation.
