Watching hard knocks and you can see why players would run through a wall for tomlin. These other coaches are such nerds in comparison

Yeah if people weren’t happy with how much the media loved Tomlin before, they’re gonna be absolutely sick once Hard Knocks is done.

Just such a different energy between him and the other three coaches.

Y'all seen that Athlete article full of players talking about Tomlin? I forget whether I already mentioned it.

Just watched the trailer (saving the real deal for when the wife is home) and just the difference in their voices. Tomlin 'kin projects man.

edit: Also, tangentially, I might go find the 2022 Lions Hard Knocks now, because if there's one HC in the league who projects a similar energy to Tomlin it's Campbell, except Tomlin comes across as the relaxed, zen version of this where as Campbell sounds like he's just done three jagerbombs and a round in the ring and is considering pretending to be one of his players so he can go back out there himself.

Hard Knocks AFC North is really good. If you're a Steelers fan you'd love the mike tomlin mic'd up moments

His pregame talks with the team are great as well as him opening his house up to any player during Thanksgiving

Reading a mock draft article on the NFL. The author quotes an anonymous scout as saying "only one guy would have been top 10 last year". My desire to trade this year's 1st for one next year only intensifies.

Yeah, the best bits of Hard Knocks are always the mic'd up behind the scenes stuff. Was cool to hear what Tomlin actually said to Pickens after the early pick 6. And the emphasis the coaching staff placed on the Herbig v Orlando Brown matchup all week, only for Herbig to deliver in the biggest way.

Travis Hunter, Mason Graham, Will Johnson, Tetoria McMillan are easy top 10 players in any draft. Aka, I hate rankings, it's more about ratings and potentials that place players into groups.

But I always feel good/great players can be drafted in the back end of the first round. And the Steelers will still need players on rookies contracts, especially with Wilson going to get a big jump. I may be ok with trading back out of the first to pick up extra picks. Say like 26 for 37 and 75 from Chicago.

It's no secret that this is why guys want to play for him. That stuff doesn't translate well to a press conference setting, so it becomes Tomlinisms, which we've (collectively and to varying degrees because we're individual people) come to abhor. But it's totally understandable why it resonates with his guys.

Absolutely true.

But my disappointment is that Tomlin doesn't complement his weaknesses (being a tactician) by bringing in bona fide coordinators. We got Todd Haley and Fitchner and Matt Canada.

It's no wonder this team looks way better than it has in 6 years.

I agree. If he employed strategy/scheme/teacher/detail types as coordinators I believe he would be a lot more successful.

Even 4 out of 10 still feels weak. And reading the profiles, it felt like that weakness continued. A lot of "doesn't really have the tape/numbers/consistency but the tools are there" or "this is higher than I think they should go but team X has a need and this is as good as it gets".

I'd also point out that trading a 1st back a year is still probably going to acquire extra picks. Eagles got a 3rd that year year and 2nd two years back when they traded one a 1st a year back with the Saints.

edit: The Johnson-Ravens situation is hilarious but I have to admit, I do have a sneaking sympathy with Johnson in some ways and it increases my belief that it's bullshit that pro athletes have so little say on where they go to in the US, cos I don't think he'd on a team with so little interest in using him if they did.
