Kozora highlighted a few cases where you know, maybe Pickens is slowing down to fool the DB.

But even with those considered, he's being lazy. He's lazy when he's not going to get targeted, he's lazy blocking, and there's a few cases where you can definitely highlight him not being 100% on routes where he can be targeted. The big one for me is route where he's going from one side of the field to the other, where he'd probably not get the ball but he could really help the QB in a slow developing situation if he makes it. The one where he just walks off the line of scrimmage, that route. Penultimate play of the game where Fields targets him anyway but Pickens is nowhere near where he has to be, that route.

I'm asking this to everyone - right now, would you pay Pickens this summer?

I'm a no. He is so gifted and so good when he wants to be but he's not so gifted that he's irreplaceable and he goes haywire too often for me to want to pay him even before we consider him as a leader, the locker room, and the rest of it. As a third year pro, the odds of fixing it are slim and mostly hinge on him wanting to be fixed and, let's be honest, he mostly looks like he'd rather be somewhere else.

The PIckens we are seeing now is the Diontae we have seen the last 2 seasons. Pickens was given the script and he is now doing it.

I think Pickens is a total stud, but he's coming up on a contract year and this offense is really f***ing with his money.

So the Steelers again are going to have Harris and 2 practice squad guys for RBs. Then they have a unhappy #1 WR and some other guys.
Sunday is going to be fun

We are due for a Tomlin special

This team may be in a situation at the end of the year where they have a QB, Oline, and defense, but they have a losing record. It absolutely looks feasible right now.

I'm honestly starting to wonder if they try trading Pickens and Jones at the draft. I think they are handling Jones all wrong, but if he has shown some jagoff tendencies and it may come with being a UGA guy.

It seems the PR machine is picking up steam.
First stories about effort, then tantrums. Now on behindthesteelcurtain.com, they're saying he's been late for "work" several times. Maybe there's something to that chick that sais keep an eye on Pickens on her Twitter account.
Nothing PR about his effort or tantrums. They are free for everyone to see weekly.

Awesome to have a head coach and OC that base their entire game plan on both sides of the ball around a strong running game despite having mediocre at best running backs and a young patchwork offensive line. But Tomlin and Smith aren't changing, by God.

This is technically a contract year. He can get his contract this summer after all.

I also think he's f***ing with his own money more than the Steelers are at this point. He's got more than enough targets to put up a big year with. Maybe not the year he'd want, but good enough. He's killed a few of his biggest plays through his own mistakes. Now he's getting routes taken away because he's lazy. People say "oh it's only the heavy packages", but they passed on half of those. Pickens ran 20 routes on 30 Fields' dropbacks. I think he missed more route opportunities in that Cowboys game than he had in the other four put together.

He's got the opportunity and if he doesn't see that, it's just another example of how his brain is always going to be a huge challenge for Tomlin to manage.

Hopefully this picks up more momentum with the national media

It's what we all have been saying for years. Glad the "national" media is starting to point it out but this group of dudes is really not the national media.

What we need is the guys on the pregame shows to start to bring this up and the broadcast crews. The whole NHALS nonsense is nauseating for us local people that know it means nothing but mediocrity.

you can absolutely count me in the category of someone who likes continuity. Some organizations are absolute jokes with how quick they hire/fire coaches and expect it to magically fix everything.

…. having said that. It’s loooooong overdue for a change.

Ummm...what do you want to base it on, the QBs and WRs? Have you seen them? We have a washed up Wilson, a never been Fields and one legit WR who is a giant baby.

I definitely thought Wilson would start. I think if Fields has a good week, he has a legitimate shot to keep the job. If he’s bad or just ok, then Wilson will start next week.

Yeah, me too.

For me the key here is just how excited Tomlin is about Wilson. I think he's pretty excited and he's being really cautious because he doesn't want to wreck his new toy, but the moment he's confident Fields is out unless he's amazing. Not just good, but a statement game.

But maybe I'm wrong and the delay is about giving Fields rope to win the job. He doesn't sound like that in public, but maybe I'm reading him wrong.

This seems like the last half for Fields they have to win the next 3.
Nix just threw for 200 yards and 2 tds and Dalton had 300 3 tds against Vegas

I find it funny that the same people grilling Fields for not putting up gaudy passing numbers are the same people who defend Tomlin and the coaching staff along with their playcalling. There are only 7 QBs averaging 270 passing yards or more per game, and all 7 of those guys (Purdy, Brurow, Cousins, Stroud, Prescott, Love and Smith) are averaging at minimum 35 passing attempts per game. Geno Smith is over 40 passing attempts per game.

If you're running a 1970s style offense where your QB is only throwing 25 times a game, you're not going to be putting up much more than 200 yards a game passing. 200 yards passing with 25 pass attempts is an 8.0 yards/attempt, which would be tied for 6th in the NFL.

We are averaging 27 attempts a game for the season and 31 over the last 3 games you need to be more efficient

And even if Fields led the NFL in yards/attempt (Purdy is at 8.8 right now), 27 passing attempts per game results in only 238 passing yards per game.
Ok but the colts game is propping up Fields numbers that game he threw 34 times for 312. In Atlanta Denver and Dallas he didn’t crack 160. Purdy lowest game is 244. In order for him to ne successful he needs to throw for 250 and run for another 50 and score 3 tds a game

Which is completely unreasonable with the amount of passing plays the play callers are giving him.

Demanding that he get 250 passing yards per game on 25 passes is just utterly ridiculous, especially with the WR talent this team has.
