Seven points in eleven games and no one's talking about this guy. I know people were pretty hesitant about him and that's understandable but I can't help it, I'm so happy this hometown kid with heart is doing as well as he is. What say you about our guy Maroon?

Have you been watching him?

undoubtedly helps the power play, but ES hasnt done much.

I love him well enough. I do think he would play better with speed on his line but idk

He sits at the side of the net and acts like a bumper. Nothing he does on the PP is unique. His "soft" hands are overrated AF and he's atrocious 5 on 5. I absolutely appreciate his desire to play in Stl. He's not using his size to his advantage enough. Dude needs to be a wrecking ball because not much else is happening.

4th line duty, bump him for Barby

Much of the issues I blame Yeo and coaching on; you can see the mismanagement across the board with the players in general. I don't think he's the greatest player around but he's contributed in the role Yeo's given him and you can't ask for much more than that.

Personally, I'd use him for special teams exclusively and I'd talk to him about throwing that body around abit more.

I like him on this team at that price. I like him better on the 3rd line, and maybe 4th.

The PP strategy seems to be working. I think the side net jam guy is more of a decoy to distract the goalie, but I can’t complain if it’s working.

He isn't very good compared to the other 12 forwards on this roster. I'd place him just ahead of Soshnikov who hasn't played yet. I just wish Patty M. would at least play with some intensity. If what we see right now is him playing with intensity, then his back injury must have taken almost everything out of him. I was hopeful. Now disappointed.

He seems to never being skating hard and giving maximum effort or is just painfully slow. It's not like I'm rooting against the guy either. He's living the dream that anyone who played youth hockey in St. Louis had growing up. I suppose it's possible that he's not fully recovered from the back surgery and is still finding his legs.

he has his good moments and his bad moments

i like him on my team for sure. hes playing much better than alot of our leaders are anyways.

Point-wise, we're clearly getting a good return on the financial investment.

His play at ES has been decidedly sub-par, but I wasn't really expecting much there, so I'm honestly not that disappointed. He needs to be better away from the puck and while managing the puck. He could stand to be a bit more noticeable as a physical presence as well, since that's one of his biggest selling points. He isn't shy about sticking up for himself or others, and that's always a welcome trait in any teammate.

I don't know if the Blues decided to emphasize play lower in the zone on the PP specifically because they now have Maroon, a notion I kind of find hilarious if I'm being honest, or if Maroon is just the current beneficiary of a shift in philosophy that was long overdue in coming. Either way, the PP is working and that's not a bad thing. I don't think Maroon's talents have much to do with it himself, but he isn't preventing it from succeeding, and there's something to be said for that.

Overall, I'd give his early work a C grade. As the season goes on, that grade is going to depend more and more on how he's playing at ES. We should have plenty of other options on the PP (Fabbri now, and perhaps eventually Thomas/Kyrou), so Maroon's performance there shouldn't be critical one way or the other . There's no hiding from bad play at ES, though, and that's going to matter as long as he's skating in the top 9.

Wish he could stay onside. Drives me nuts how often he kills a play by jumping offside.

His skating and hockey IQ can be brutal to watch sometimes at 5v5. Love what he brings on the PP tho!

Oh people are talking about him, mostly saying he's a horrible hockey player and belongs on the fourth line. It's kind of lame how some fans just decide that they don't like a player from the beginning and then trash the player constantly. Some Blues fans decided they didn't like Maroon before the season even started. Nevermind the fact that he's a hometown guy who took a discount to be here, or the fact that he seems to be a great guy. I've seen fans give him no credit for the positive things he does while harping on the negatives all the time. It's a shame.

So yeah, I'll raise a glass to Pat Maroon. Cheers buddy!

I’m very appreciative that the Maroon Jan play has taken over the Paajarvii wrap around.

i believe he is about our 11th or 12th best forward. He slows down the pace of the game. He cannot tip the puck it seems to save his life in front of the net. I don’t think he can actually skate well enough to play any defense whatsoever.

He does however make a few nice passes here and there, and can hold on to the puck pretty well. Thankfully he isn’t on the top line anymore and I really don’t think it would be the worst thing in the world if he was removed on the powerplay.

I do not mind him on the team at the contract he is. However if he were to be on the same contract as Berglund, I’m not so sure which of the two would have been the lesser of the evils.

Meh. Whenever Fabbri is 100% back (hopefully not too far away) Maroon should be getting 4th line minutes and some PP time. Maroon is a good bottom 6 guy who’s numbers were inflated by playing with some of the best players in the league. I hope he gets his payday, but I sure hope it’s not from the Blues.

My biggest problem is how often he quits on the play because he refuses to move his feet.

He isn’t a bad player offensively. He would be a much better player if he kept skating. Just about every time he gets the puck, his feet go dormant. It makes him incredibly easy to defend if he is not along the boards. But being stapled to the boards with the puck is no use if you can’t curl away with speed or make a great pass. This rarely happens.

Defensively and through the neutral zone he is very difficult to watch. He looks like a junior level player at those times because he doesn’t seem to understand the game. That is befuddling for an NHL player.

I really want to root for the guy because he wants to play for his hometown and most importantly be with his son.

His play makes that near impossible.

Finally, he reads like a guy content to ride on the coattails of his skill. I like to research our new players. Listening to his story (career progression), it seems readily apparent that partying was more important than anything for a long time. Then comes his story about learning the need to get in shape a few years ago. As if his work ethic wasn’t a glaring problem from his days in Philly weren’t enough, we continue to see it after his supposed lesson about getting in shape. It’s frustrating to know that someone so talented can take it for granted even after his lessons learned accounts.

he's basically a net-front presence on the power-play and a 3rd/4th line winger. He serves a role and brings a much needed element to this team. Tough to figure out where he fits beyond this season, especially with Sanford/Kyrou/Thomas likely to take larger roles next year, but he's been as advertised. Good hands, big body, useful depth player...but should not be anywhere near the top-6, now or ever.

I guess I don’t see him screening goalie, nor being all that physical.

I've been pleasantly surprised by his play on the PP. He doesn't **** around and hang onto the puck too long.

Otherwise, meh. Cheap, though.

He keeps racking up points, and he's doing it for a lot less money than some of our stars are getting (Schwartz, I'm looking at you). As soon as he stops producing points I'll take issue, but there are a lot bigger problems on this team than Pat Maroon.

He has been worth 1.75 million. I appreciate that.

He hasn't been worth much more, though.
Looking at a typical cost analysis of NHL level talent, 1 mil is currently good for 10 points of production. He's on a pace for 50 points. I don't think that will continue, but he's absolutely earning his money.

I'm just gonna copy and paste what Dbrownss said earlier:

"He sits at the side of the net and acts like a bumper. Nothing he does on the PP is unique. His "soft" hands are overrated AF and he's atrocious 5 on 5. I think he has 4 secondary assists and 3 primary assists. Not really coming close to scoring. His offensive game has been completely underwhelming. Especially at 5 on 5.

Like you said, he is unlikely to keep up his pace unless he continues to play on the PP and touch the puck before someone more talented scores and gifts him a point. What he has been doing would get him about 15 points in a season in NJ or ARI on their 3rd line(the other teams interested in him I believe). Here, he has gotten to play with some talented forwards. Even on the 3rd line against 3rd pairing d-men.
