I work with a lot of Filipinos and they are such a happy, loving bunch. Absolutely terrible what happened - we need justice.
100% done on purpose. Like you said, I think they were letting some vehicles through to either restock or help close up for the night.Tragic event. I believe a witness confirmed it occurred at the tail end of the evening, where a volunteer moved a barrier to allow the vehicle in (they were allowing vehicles in/out all day apparently to restock supplies etc for food trucks)
Thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of everyone impacted.
There was a video circulating in the direct aftermath that I unfortunately saw last night, and regret it. Impossible not to be affected and heartbroken by what was shown occurring, a lot of people attempting to do their best in medical care in an impossible situation.
The restraint shown by those who apprehended the driver was outstanding, the energy of the crowd was palpable when confronting him in the video that was on X.
Youngest was 5. Absolutely disgusting stuff.Perp has been charged. Eight counts of murder.
Am sorry but why wouldn't they publish the name of someone that killed a dozen people and injured 20 to 30? Its crazy that he can hide under that mental illness excuse. Am sorry but his life is not equal to 20 to 30 people injured or killed and families affected. One person doing this type of damage deserves big punishment and in most other countries would be death sentence. This guy has had problems before and now this. So what will they do? Release him again so.he can kill.more.innocent people. It's just sick and the justice system makes it disgusting. Am sorry but his life doesn't equal any of the lives that was lost in that tragedy especially the way they died. Makes me sick to my stomach that he is still living and breathing after that massacre. If he did that in US, he would have been shot and killed by police already.Saw the convoy of ambulances on the way home…
Hopefully the news doesn’t publish the perps name but they probably already have.
Vancouver and Canada in general should start taking safety and security more seriously as the population grows and we get more people that will have mental illness. Why did they close the riverview mental.hospital?? Short staff? Well that's a poor excuse because it's much more needed than the dumb bike lanes they prioritize. Why do else have a catch and release system? Why was Bill C75 and C5 passed? Its starts at the top and those people are responsible for creating policies that have created increase in crime, drug use etc. They need to fix the system before we end up like US.My sister texted me this morning to see if I was ok, my mom called me earlier to see if I was ok. You know, through out the day of the out pour of support from friends, colleagues. You would think an event like that would never occur here, but It did. A tragic event can happen anywhere in this world and it just happened to be in our back yard.
The filipino community is enriched all over the world, in one way or another we have someone who is affected. Finding the support system to help you through this is good for the mind and soul.
It was definitely intentionally and he planned it. Many have saw him revving his car before the rampage. He was getting ready to kill a lot of people which was sick and he was aware at the time because he got out of his car to escape the scene before people ran after him and tackled him down.We are all struggling to fathom why this occurred? And how an SUV could have gotten around the blockade. From the images I saw, the food trucks were on a smaller street like 43rd, not on Fraser as I could see houses in the background.
But, organizers would have needed to city to block off the smaller side streets to prevent cars from entering the street. Probably those were just the standard wooden ones.
This event was held on Fraser between 41st to 49th. which would have been blocked off so any traffic on Fraser would have had to turn right or left once they hit those 2 major streets.
This was intentional.
Sad to think that for future large gatherings that we are going to need those large concrete barriers placed at all potential roadways to an event for security.
The Egyptians would scrape off the hieroglyphics on walls to erase people from history. They had the right ideaMostly so that his name is forgotten, he never gets to tell his story, and so others don’t get stupid evil ideas.
Pricks like that should be forgotten by history.
The guy is either a Monster or is mentally ill. If mentally ill why do we continue as a society to allow them the same freedoms as the other citizens who have to be accountable for our actions? They released the face and name, that man is a dead man walking.
Either the system or the streets will get him, either way he's screwed.

If one can’t stand trial for one’s actions then maybe they should not have the same freedoms?
Was mentioned that he is known to police. So he’s done stuff before and still is allowed out?
Sadly 11 people have paid the ultimate price and several others are also hurt.I believe he was known for mental health crisis situations, not anything violent.
It's unfortunate that yesterday was the one where he snapped.
Sadly 11 people have paid the ultimate price and several others are also hurt.
i would wager that >99% of mentally ill people do not commit violent acts, so if you restricted their freedom in some way that would essentially be fascism. The guy is either a Monster or is mentally ill.
