OT: The OT Thread | Post Apocalyptic Edition

It's code orange for Vancouver general hospital for mass casualties including BC children's hospital 😭
Last update was 20 casualties based on news reports

Will people still go for sun run after this tragedy? It just feels so soon to go for a run in the streets after what just happened

The Filipino community is genuinely one of the nicest and most outgoing groups of people in Vancouver. It feels tremendously unfair for such a thing to have happened to them.

A generation of Filipinos came to Vancouver and filled jobs in retail, healthcare, and home care when no one else would. Now their next generation is standing on their shoulders. I cannot fathom that this has happened to their community.

Self care is not reading the comments.

EDIT: Nvm. It's really bad on FB tho.

The comments turned political, I just flagged them with infraction reports. Thankfully, some people have called out on the bullshit on some posters who made it political in saying they have no heart.

As a community as a whole, in Vancouver and the rest of Canada, we appreciate the support from everyone.

Even here, thanks guys.

What a tragic day. What a sad day. Why?
We are all struggling to fathom why this occurred? And how an SUV could have gotten around the blockade. From the images I saw, the food trucks were on a smaller street like 43rd, not on Fraser as I could see houses in the background.

But, organizers would have needed to city to block off the smaller side streets to prevent cars from entering the street. Probably those were just the standard wooden ones.

This event was held on Fraser between 41st to 49th. which would have been blocked off so any traffic on Fraser would have had to turn right or left once they hit those 2 major streets.

This was intentional.

Sad to think that for future large gatherings that we are going to need those large concrete barriers placed at all potential roadways to an event for security.

Extremely sad that some souls turn this dark and such a tragedy, I know many Filipinos and they are a strong loving people and they will grow stronger through this tragedy.

It’s been a rough couple hours for me, mentally and emotionally. Trying to get through this..

This is my neighbourhood. Going to be a rough day for our local elementary school and kids, only can wonder who has been directly affected. We haven't discussed it with our own kids yet. Tomorrow is a pro-D day so that will give staff time.

My heart goes out to the victims and the Filipino community in particular. Just by chance, that I was not there myself.

Tragic event. I believe a witness confirmed it occurred at the tail end of the evening, where a volunteer moved a barrier to allow the vehicle in (they were allowing vehicles in/out all day apparently to restock supplies etc for food trucks)

Thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of everyone impacted.

There was a video circulating in the direct aftermath that I unfortunately saw last night, and regret it. Impossible not to be affected and heartbroken by what was shown occurring, a lot of people attempting to do their best in medical care in an impossible situation.

The restraint shown by those who apprehended the driver was outstanding, the energy of the crowd was palpable when confronting him in the video that was on X.

They were ready to kill the guy, I also saw the aftermath of the event.
The people lying down there motionless, people trying their best to get them help.

Makes you feel choked up seeing it..
