OT: The OT Thread: At least it's not cold out (Warning in post 368)

For someone who is devoutly atheist, has been to maybe services ever and doesnt know these things... ordination is becoming a priest (or whatever your denomination's equivalent is)?
Yes.

Once I am ordained, I get to use the Rev. title. And in American Baptist churches, the usual term is Pastor ____.

It will also open up options for me as a lot of denominations will allow someone to transfer their ordination. For instance, my dad is a layleader (non-pastor who can fill in and do certain pastoral duties like preach a sermon) at his United Methodist Church. And I am sure that my dad and one of my seminary professors who is also a United Methodist would love if we moved to the United Methodist Church.

My gameplan is to keep my 9 to 5 to pay the bills and then find some sort of way to use my Master of Divinity with an elective concentration in Theology and Social Justice to get a job that at least pays for my student loans.

You lose that cold endurance quick.

One of my best friends growing up went to the University of South Carolina for grad school. He came home for winter break after leaving in August and his ability to deal with WNY cold was gone.
Yeah I’m basically a southerner now. The most northern place I’ve lived since 1999 is Northern Virginia.

Between being in cold or hot for an extended period, I’d take the cold though. I can endure a lot of heat but you can’t get out of it unless you’re in A/C. In the cold, there’s a lot more you can do to get warm.

I say this as someone who has know you nearly thirty years in cyberspace and real life, you are the best possible person I can think for that job. It gives me hope for the future of the devote honestly.
Thanks. That really does mean a lot.

It has been tough for my wife and I to feel like we have lost, and frankly been abandoned, by so many people that we thought were good friends.

And getting outside perspective that reinforces that we are the ones seeing things clearly and making the right, tough decisions helps me at least.

We had marriage counseling last night. And our therapist just couldn't understand the logic around what happened. And we were like, "We have no idea, either..."

It helps fight what really feels like gaslighting.

As someone who has never lived outside of NY state, I definitely like the cold more than the heat.

It’s really hard to beat hot weather. You are either in A/C, or a pool, or you’re in some form of being hot. At some point, shade is hot. I’ve been in 100 degree heat in the shade. There’s some amount of relief in fans, white clothing, etc but it’s still not comfortable.

For cold, clothing, heaters, shelter, heated clothing/blankets, etc can get you warm. I’ve been in a thermal sleeping blanket in below freezing weather and been fine.

Of the places where I thought it was hottest, SE Asia is the most ridiculous. SE USA and Florida are hard to live in too. Texas was easy once you get to I35 and west. Middle East is really hot but it’s super dry so your sweat evaporates as fast as you produce it. As long as you are drinking water it’s not that bad.

I sadly have wound up somewhere hot. If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed in CR in the mountains. 🤣

I find I can’t cool down and there are only so many layers one can remove before either violating local decency ordinances or losing skin.

Happy The Bear Eve to those who celebrate. Overall I didn't think season three was as good as one and two however I am still looking forward to season four dropping tomorrow.
