Feel free to disregard as it is none of my business. Did you once mention you were from a Holiness movement background? Do you have your local license? I didn't know you were going for ordination, and this is exciting news for me. Pretty awesome, JB.
I am in the American Baptist Church USA denomination. I do not have a local pastoral post currently. I am on our church council and had been running our youth group on a volunteer basis for the past three years.

Not sure whom I'm thinking of that was Wesleyan. I was aware though that you had a heart to serve. Next Gen is a tough gig. Doing it as a volunteer for three years... you were two years away from a volunteer sabbatical

I'll lift your ministry and council up, brother JB.

I am a former Free Methodist who got his MDiv from a seminary that is a part of one of the flagship Free Methodist universities (Northeastern Seminary at Roberts Wesleyan University).

So, I definitely have strong Methodist/Wesleyan roots.

Ah, got it now. Thank you. I believe I attached that memory to you as a neighbor (Nazarene).

Has anyone else noticed people are driving crazier since the pandemic, or am I just experiencing recency biased? I swear there are more lunatics on the road.

I was driving down the street doing around 45 in a 40, some bozo was tailgating me. Whatever; didn't bother me much.

I take a right onto my street, drive about 50 yards. My street has an island of grass. Im about 20 yards from it going almost 30 in a 30, and this lunatic guns it around me, going in the opposite lane to do so, and barely makes it past me almost hitting the island. I slammed on my horn, which really isn't a good idea now-a-days with how aggressive people are. The neighborhood speed limit is 30. They were driving 45 down the rest of the street, and backed into a driveway. We had a nice little stare down as I passed by, but I knew it wasn't worth it to escalate it with that clown. They did have a New Jersey license plate heh.

That's the second time thats happened to me in the past few months. The first time I handled it worse. The bird was flying out my window that time. I told myself I'd handle it better next time, and it was a...slight improvement, haha.

It's hiliarious because they only save a couple seconds by doing that, but look like absolute lunatics in the process. Maybe I should just call the cops next time.

Give them a thumbs down. They’ll have a conniption.

I don't know if they are crazier since lockdown but there are still people out there acting foolish and they were before. It may be that some of what we took as normal we notice more now after having been removed from it. I know that I will tell people to slow the f*** down or such. With the stupidity of changing headlights that now violate old lumen maximums, driving at night is blinding which is a recent shift. That and the supposedly automatically adjusting high beams that don't.

Years ago, the ex and I owned a house on what is a cut through for some but was a purely residential street. We had someone roll down the street (limit at the time was 30) doing almost twice that with their rag top down. Three younger, testosterone and bodywashed drench guys in the vehicle didn't like when I yelled at them from my front yard to slow the f*** down. They were angry and decided to stop... until several of the other dads who were also all out doing yard or house work started converging on their car from the other side of the street. Think zombie approach - people moving silently up to them until the one in the back seat noticed and announced to his friends that it was time to get the hell out of there. I was thinking we were going to have some middle aged version of the Jets and the Sharks scene.

I landed back in the USA in 2009 after living in Europe for five years. I was hurt and couldn't drive for a few months, but once I was able to, driving was a nightmare. Very simple concepts, like merging at the merge point, zipper technique, entering and exiting a traffic circle, are mostly executed wrong by Americans. Europeans, particularly Germans, execute it to the law most of the time.

My favorite is when two lanes merge into one due to construction or the roadway narrows, and drivers think that there is some sort of pecking order and a waiting line. That leaves the entire lane, which is ending, unoccupied for sometimes up to a mile. Drivers are supposed to go all the way to the merge point in both lanes, execute the zipper technique, and move on. But we get a traffic jam, and when you try to use the other lane, someone undoubtedly gets into both lanes and won't let traffic pass. Dumb drivers.

What am I missing? I don't notice anything new

That’s a crazy total. I just looked it up and I4 is the deadliest interstate in the US. Not surprised.

Yeah, a 132 mile road with 1.4 deaths per mile is something I avoid if I can. When I head down to pick up or drop off the younger spawn, I cut cross-lots through Ocala National Forest to stay off the highway. Adds 20-30 minutes but it's so much calmer.

95 isn’t bad like 4 but it’s also not great. 75 can be crazy too. When my daughter was playing in Florida, we’d get to Jacksonville, head west on 10 to Florida 301, and then take that south to 75 and Wesley Chapel. Took a little longer but so much safer.

So, my wife and I had a meeting with 3 of the leaders at church last night about the situation and how it made us feel and stuff.

We feel better than we did before the meeting. It will be interesting to see what the next steps are. At a minimum, I hope they actually learn a variety of lessons of how this whole situation was not handled well and they add new bylaws and the pastor and leaders learn about how to deal with members of their community that interview for a role and don't get it.

I was treated like an external candidate that they had no prior relationship with and no desire to have a relationship with in the future. I hope they do a lot better in that regard in the future.
