Our systems aren't good and deserve scrutiny but Primeau let 7 goals go by him again last night.

He's just not an NHL goalie. Monty looked to be one last year but his stock is falling fast as well.

We need to find one.

We could try Dobes a couple of times. It's the beginning of the season, shouldn't it be the ideal time to do it?

Edit: Well he's day to day, so scrap that for now...

I haven't watched the game, but MSL is probably right about that part: Washington playing the same dzone system he wants his players to play. Just like Laval is playing the same system and looks way better doing it.

I keep saying it since the start of the season, the majority (and not necessarily the kids) aren't executing: distance between players is all wrong (both teammates and opponents), Ds cheats too much (which is bad with the team inability to keep the puck) and puck pressure (and support) is almost absent.

And in previous seasons, these issues were fixed super fast. This year, the players tuned out the coaches before the season even started.
Washington's Dmen are not chasing players around in their zone.
They are not constantly defending on their weak side.
Their forwards press our blue line and cut off the boards while their D do far more boxing out than we do.
So yeah if you want to call it Hybrid go ahead but it's not the same animal at all.

@Mrb1p I saw you were looking for my attention in the GDT yesterday about Mike Matheson and me saying he had such a great game (I barely watched the game).

What low hanging fruit debate did you want to get into now?

Because I checked you on saying Mike Matheson's value is similar to Erik Gustafsson and the latter does things just as well...

It somehow means i'm incapable of being honest about the game MM plays?

Some of us aren't so inadequate my man lol...you want to ask me what I think about how he played last night or this season, just ask.

Just as well is one way of putting it, yeah.

Your EXACT quote was

"A lot of D can do what he does, mainly because he doesn't do it well...Gustafsson is the perfect example".

Agreed, and he looked good in preseason.

For some reason, this brass has been holding onto Primeau like he's a Fowler-level prospect. He was the whole reason the three-goalie carousel happened last year. It's caused a lot more problems, and I haven't really seen anything from him that makes me want to keep going with it.

Yes, that's exactly what I said. I'm not sure why you think it's outrageous. Look at their usage and production, now look back at how Gus is/was used on good teams and look at his production and now look at how Matheson was used/will be used on good teams.

Yet you just hinted that I was putting it differently?

SMDH.

I already looked at it and showed you how way off you were.

Again, it's fine that you don't like Matheson and you have an axe to grind with him.

But you wanted my attention in the GDT last night because somehow in your head, because I disagreed with your Matheson = Gustafsson comparison, it means i'm incapable of being objective about his performance.

Once again, not all of us are led by our feelings. If MM plays like shit, i'll say he plays like shit. lol it's not complicated. I didn't watch most of last night's game so I don't have an opinion either way.

But one thing I won't do, is agree that he has no value and should be discarded.

Sorry, won't happen...FACTS > FEELINGS.

How the f*** did Dvorak escape accountability
He's not Xhekaj, or Pezzetta.

He can't do any wrong.

Also, there's no accountability unless it's one of the top 2

It's why, I'm mostly, but not entirely sarcastic that I imagine Anderson will face some sort of reprimand for fighting and not his lackadaisical play beforehand.

MSL just does more and more things that show he's not a good coach.

It's sad, but I think we as a fan base have figured out MSL is bad before we, as a collective figured out Bergevin was bad.

This pretty much sums up a bunch of their latest games. They play well and then at some point, the game gets away from them.

Against the Rangers, even if they were down 4-0 early, they were creating chances. They even made it 4-2 at some point. And then at some point, the game got away from them. Last night, same thing. They were in the game and doing well enough for a road game. And then, the game got away from them.

Against Seattle, they weren't in the game to start with. But after MSL called a time out, the team started playing real well and creating chances again. And then once again, the game got a way from them.

And when the game gets away from them, it's ugly.

There were a few instances where it was the direct cause of the giving away the slot completely. I just don't understand how an NHL team can do that. I've never seen a team be this bad defensively, though I don't follow bottom feeders usually. This year though, It's infuriating and I think I'm of the more patient temperament
Former NHL players have been roasting this concept for two years now on RDS it makes zero sense to them.

Just last night, Marty? We've been throwing up all over ourselves for years now. Try that :)

I gotta give it to him though... if nothing else, he is good for quotes. The RDS chair is waiting.

Before you start criticizing, notice the age of d-men.

Barron, Hutson and Struble have played less together than each of the Fehérvári, Sandin group. Not to mention Carlson and Van Riemsdyk. Alexeyev would be one of the most experienced defensemen in your team. McIlrath hasn't played a huge amount of games in the NHL, but over 600 in the AHL.

Then the centers, the basic of the line. Washington has Strome, Dubois in TOP 6, you have Suzuki and Newhook. Dvorak is an opponent agent for more than one game. It's appalling what he's showing.

Heineman, who's max a third line player and even that when players are injured, is playing on the first line.

You can criticize the tactics, but it's one thing to criticize the tactical guidelines, it's another thing to see if the players can execute them.

To judge by Columbus, make the fourth line out of tough players who will play extremely hard, good in for checking, fight the opponent. For example, something like:

L. Tuch - F. Xhekaj - Pezzetta

(write your version, you know players better)

It will definitely be better than two amorphous players Armia and especially Dvorak.

By the way, I don't know why you have Matheson. That corn protection in front of the net... .
I'm not buying the age BS or the rebuild BS it's just an easy cop out.
Young players are more prepared than ever to play in the NHL.
There is not one defender on our team who hasn't shown an ability to play and to play well at this level and yes that includes Justin Barron.
The players are not buying into the current game plan and they are playing like they don't believe they can win with it.
I'm also getting the sense that this team is not quite as well knit as they would have us believe.
It doesn't matter who you move in or out of the line up they are being asked to play a style they are clearly incapable of and they know it.

Their start showed what? It showed to me that they don't play defense, allowing 3 goals straight. With Dach and Newhook reaching Coyotes style differentials. Caufield with 10 goals is breaking even.

Fully disagreed. These answers make it seem like those are sporadic, whereas those are systemic issues : no forecheck, no defensive system in the Dzone, no ability to keep, cycle and generate chances in the Ozone...

The reality is those games were all one sided in just about every measurable category you care to look at even when we were hanging on.
Those games like water were always going to find their level.
