Who wins?

I stand corrected. This also seems to concur. But where they getting the revenue from? It sure isn't gate. LA tickets are so cheap compared to here. Must have to do with having more district revenue?

I was quick to remember because I was a little shocked to see it. I agree about the gate being low, maybe sponsors or local tv? Their arena was built with less public money than other states or provinces I think. Maybe they get revenue from the Lakers or other events?

I think we get the job done in 7, but the process will be excruciatingly stressful and we'll get thunder clapped by whoever plays us in round 2.

Even still, I could also see the Kings beating us in 6-7 games. The law of averages is working in their favor and we have been plagued by injuries.

I have a bad feeling about this year's playoffs. Mostly because Stu Skinner looks so bad..I have zero faith in him. Now you add up all the injuries on top of really poor goaltending.... Let's also include Knobs low intensity style of play. Not much for momentum other than McDrai going Nuclear.

Now Ekholm will be out long-term.. my expectations have never been lower.

Did you forget about 2024?
I didn't. That team was at the top of their game.

But regression across the board plus health problems make the hill that much steeper. The team hasn't looked like a contender throughout much of the season especially after the break.

Plus, y'know, the goalies that everyone here likes to rag on.

We're likely not going anywhere without Ekholm.

But I'll enjoy the playoffs for what they are. Us playing at our worst with key players injured and the worst goalie in the playoffs.

The thing with the Kings is their coaching staff absolutely refuses to adapt their game. They are set in their systems. I remember Hiller deploying the 1-3-1 when they were down in the third, behind a couple of goals with like 5 mins to go.

I think we have this feeling that the NHL is going to rig against us but in these LA series I don't know its the case. On one side you Have LA KINGs who are a next to non existent entity in their market. Poor ticket prices, poor viewership vs the Oilers that have the most per game revenues of any team in the league last year and decent viewership and frankly with McD and Drai people watch. Even if they say they don't they probably watch some.

Its nothing but a bad deal for the NHL if LA advances. Financially, or any way, theres just no win in that and nor is it in advancing the game in that market, which decades have told us, it just doesn't happen. Only Gretz made LA happen and just for a brief while. The NHL should want the Oilers to advance. So thats a consideration for people that do bet on these sorts of things.

Now past first round all bets are off. NHL would rather Vegas or Colorado beat us. Just saying.
IMO the league can take oilers fans completely for granted. We pay up no matter what. We buy all our tickets with the team trash, we sell our top players jerseys no matter what is going on. There can be a far bigger boost to revenues by have the Kings starting to look like their rebuild is a success and they are moving into being contenders. Their fans start spending a lot more if they think their team can be a winner. While we will just keep on paying out the same as long as McDrai are here.

Of the kings win the first round their house will be packed and a whole new wave of fans will jump on the wagon and start buying merch. While more oilers fans already have all their jerseys and other stuff already.

Not gonna claim things are gonna be straight up rigged. But shouldn’t expect any favours coming out way. No doubt McDavid mauling will have a very high bar to be called. We will enjoy lots of after the whistle stuff on our top guys being a-ok.

Still good enough to win the season series against Vegas. I have seen nothing to support that they will walk us in the playoffs. The team needs to get healthy for sure but if they do they are just as dangerous as anyone.

Even when they were at the “top of their game” last season you were still saying the same kind of thing. Let’s not pretend this is something new.

They tied the season series with Vegas, 2 wins apiece. I think Vegas is the overall better team. Not sure where this “no chance” or “they’ll walk us” stuff is coming from. I just think Vegas is a really good team.

Simply put this team isn’t as good as last year’s. They need to get past LA before we even think about Vegas anyway. And if you want to talk about regular season series so far the Kings are ahead in that department.

Oh my bad you are right.

Yep LA first. I’m not as high on Vegas as you and I think they get punted if they play the Wild.

We shall see.

The kings are a good team but if this is the mcdavid we get done playoff time and draisaitl comes back healthy which I think he will be ita gonna be hard out for them.

This season just feels like the team still hasn't really got it's mojo and all the sudden it's playoffs.

I still think any series where we can get half decent goaltending - literally put us against any team in this league and we have a shot. I firmly believe that. But I don't have any faith we will get the goaltending we need. Too many variables that haven't gone right all year need to all go right at once. Maybe they can flip the switch. We've seen this team dead in the water a million times and find a way

The 1987-88 team felt exactly like that, too, and then they went 16 and 2...

Never know with the McDrai / Nurse / Nuge-era Oilers. Just too unpredictable.

If everyone were healthy, I'd say the Oilers have a reasonable shot to win, but with all these injuries I think LA has the upper hand, especially if they start at home.
