I said it before but it's the Marner contract. It was just a terrible deal and there was no comparable too it. He's also been the worst playoff performer in the playoffs from the core. It's kind of disgusting people go on after Nylander, but Marner's mistakes are a lot worse however because "he works hard" so he doesn't get criticized as much.

He also went after the fans. Just a disgrace to the jersey and his dad too

Yea, tough one. Marner has both more upside and clearly more downside. The people in charge have to weigh those out and make a decision... not even taking the cap hit into consideration.

He might be someone who has more success elsewhere, but I don't ever see us getting fair value back in a trade.

I love that he loves being a Leaf, but I think his attitude stinks, I always have. Plus, I don't love him as a player when he is playing like this, he is damaging to the rest of the team imo.

If I were to move one of the core, it would be him no doubt.

If you look at the Stanley cup winners, I can only think of one star small playmaking winger and that was MSL. Most star wingers on cup teams are big or goal scorers or both. Stamkos (used as a winger), kucherov (he a high volume shooter), kessel, Ovechkin, tarasenko, Rantanen, Landeskog, Nischishkin, Tarasenko, Guentzel, Kane, Gaborik. All these wingers won the cup, and most of these names were goal scorers, and Rantanen who is more a playmaking type like marner, atleast he is big and has size.

it’s clear to most now that Marner is a diva. He’s shown time and time again that he is thin skinned and disappears when it matters. He makes 11 million and they should be shopping him. He’s the epitome of what is wrong with this core.

Tavares’ contract gets crapped on a lot and I’m not a big fan of it either but he’s been one of few leafs who is putting in the work right now and seeing results.

This team is infuriating to watch. There’s 0 hustle or compete in those top 2 lines outside of Tavares

He caves under pressure when things get even a tiny bit rough, but he can't keep his mouth shut to the media either.

He would play better where there's less spotlight, but I feel like come playoffs he has shown us he can't handle the pressure on or off the ice.

He would be the one I move to, but I feel like it would be hard to get a decent deal, might work better as a package with him as a center piece, and getting a few good pieces in return.

The only thing that should see Dubas fired is regression or a lack of progression for the team. I couldn't particularly associate any one move with either of those events occurring.

Truth. And its the wrong type of compete level also when it comes out. Fake even. Tavares is aaaaight. I do not like the cotract ether. He's sometimes wrong, sometimes right, but he's a man.

It is Marner.

Even if was making 9 mill, which is technically a steal of a deal, the rest of the issues still persist and the extra 2 mill is not going to magically make this team so much better as to override that.

I think its a failure to adapt. You had an opportunity to move Kerfoot & Engvall and add some new player into this mix.

Our bottom six needs to be very physical to compensate for our top 6 having none of it. Dennis Malgin ain't it.

He has done that consistently. Maybe not with those two specific players, but he has switched the group up.

We are not getting goals from anyone at this point though.

12+ million in dead money between Murray, Muzzin and Engvall. 2 LTIR'd and Engvall does nothing.

Could have signed Danault + Hyman + Lindgren for that amount of money. Or Marchment, Perron, Lindgren.

That's the difference between winning and not. The margin for error in this league is just too small to be wasting cap on guys like Murray.

I don't think it is hard to get fair value for Marner. He is still a 1st team All-Stars.
If Tkachuk can get you a 1st, Hubie and Weegar, there is no way Marner cannot get you that or more.

Blues is struggling and they do have pieces that fits the Leafs.

Seattle might want a big name to get more attention, dont know who fits with the Leafs beside Wright and their 1st.

There is always the Jets with Helly and Ehlers.

I would not put Muzzin there since you still need a horse in the back. Just so happened Muzzin is injured.

Murray is the one thats hurt.

I'm not sure Muzzin can get back to form with his extensive head injuries.

I don't even think Muzizn was a bad trade we got 3 good years out of him in our "window" but he's just fallen off. He needs to get Mrazek'd or LTIRetired. Nothing against him he was a warrior and a leader here but his time has come.

I think Muzzin can still play, at least I hope he can bc he is a rock in the back comes playoff time. Just hope he can come back and be 100% around playoffs

hard to pick any single move but at the top of my list would be his terrible goalie decisions and lettin

The Kadri trade was also a huge mistake.

Dubas gutted the heart and soul players from the team.

I guess this is one where we can only wait and see. I'm not being negative I just think a guy that plays the way he plays with all those long playoff runs in L.A at 33 is catching up to him. With the eye test he's slowed down a noticeable amount. Would love to be wrong though.

I think Muzzin is one of those vets where they just take it easy during the season and when it gets closer to playoffs, their plays just get better and better.

There are so many moves we can point to as "the one" but the Murray trade may be the final nail.

Kallgren is doing the best he can, but this is what life looks like when one of your tandem starters gets injured. Tonight is not on him by any stretch but he wouldn't even be on the roster if Dubas had made it a priority to get a 1A/1B goalie without a worrying (and very recent) injury history.
