First 3 game mini-slump skews the results, since then they've been among the best teams in the league, but the defense especially is note worthy. Even overall they are a top 10 defensive team even with the first 3 games factored in (8th best for the entire season I think) but after those three games they are like 2nd or 3rd best in the NHL.

A short Cup hangover is fairly predictable, the Oilers are a good team and have been a long time now anyone still trying to cling to the hope that they're not are actually if anything the ones that need a wake up call. They didn't just randomly make game 7 of a Cup Final by accident.

In particular what should be noted is the exceptional goals against, this isn't a team that just plays run n' gun hockey anymore and allows a boat load of goals. And that's without benefit of a star goalie.

Knoblaugh is a top defensive coach (either him or Coffey, whoever is doing the work) for the results he's been getting.

Kind of crazy how the Oilers are 8th overall in goals against per game with the absolute worst defence and goaltending, and their forwards, especially their stars don't play any defence.

Could you imagine how good their goals against could be if their players were actually good?
