The offseason begins

Still big on the trade down, and my favorite option is New Orleans, for reasons stated earlier in the thread. Here's how I went today:

40: Trey Amos, CB
56: Jared Ivey, DE
62: CJ West, DT
93: Damien Martinez, RB

Beane makes futures picks in the 3rd round. I think that might be the RB spot, if he can re-acquire a 3rd round pick.

Wondering about Trey Amos. Much better playing man vs zone. Maybe not a fit?

PFF grades him better in zone than man. He made more big plays out of man, but he's scheme versatile. I think the Bills will like him because he can play press man, off-man, cover 2 zone, and cover 3 zone. If the Bills re-sign Douglas or some other CB to help ease him into the role, that will help.

Ransom and Mukaba were available at 93 but I went with the futures pick. Done again, but trying to think less like Beane, I would've picked a safety and really loaded up on defense. There were more RBs available in round 4, and the Bills picked again in 16 picks.

In this situation, what do you see happening with Cook? And if he's still here, how snap counts are split up.

One thing I have not seen mentioned is I wonder what they think Ray Davis ceiling is ? He is good pass catcher as well, but does not have Cooks speed and explosiveness either so those are attributes you would likely have to draft.

Agreed. If they move on for Cook, they absolutely need to prioritize replacing his speed. We spent years without a homerun threat at the position and it legitimately hampered our run game.

I think you go the season with Cook. Davis isn't ready yet, and no rookie aside from a 1st rounder will be close. Cook should be motivate by a new contract as a free agent or a tag. Buffalo will get good play from him.

If Beane takes a rookie RB this year, that gives the Bills Davis and the rookie to play behind Cook (I consider Johnson the 3rd down back and not in the bell cow conversation). Cook gives them a year to get ready. If Cook re-signs, good. If not, then Davis and the rookie are a little more ready to take on the load.

I'd love to find a bigger RB who can be the lead back. I've always preferred a Fred Jackson style lead runner, who can take 40-50% of the runs and can run with some power.

Agreed. But would they dress all 4 RBs if they were to draft one and keep Cook?

30. Buffalo Bills: Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan​

Grant’s talent (at 6-4, 331) is undeniable, but almost nothing about his game is consistent. He also did not test anywhere near where scouts anticipated he would. Still, he’s an explosive, powerful presence with high-end potential as a nose and/or a big 3-tech. There’s enough raw ability here to bet on.

If we came away with Grant/Thomas/Bech in the first 2 rounds (assuming no moving around)......I'd call that a success.

Personally, I'd go for Landon Jackson or Kyle Kennard (or even Jack Sawyer....or even Xavier Watts or Andrew Mukuba....hell, this guy has Amos at 88 - I'd be OK with that double dip) at 62 instead of Bech.......but running a top 3 WR group of Keon/Bech/Shakir for the next 5 years could be really intriguing.

TRADE: Bills trade pick 30 to NY Giants for picks 34 and 105

34. Shavon Revel, Jr., CB, East Carolina
56. Alfred Collins, DT, Texas
62. Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas

TRADE: Jaguars trade picks 88 and 221 to Bills for picks 105 and 109

88. Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas

I did not intentionally draft three Longhorns lol; it just worked out that way.

One thing I haven't seen from a lot of the mocks in here is Ricky White. He is 100% going to be a Bill. His versatility, smooth and expanded route tree and special teams is incredibly enticing. I see Josh Reed did a piece on him, so it's for sure growing.

That’d be just about best case scenario for me. Hard to pass up on Nolen in the first, but as I usually see in mocks, all 3 tier one CBs go well ahead of the Bills in the first, and then the entire next tier:

Hairston
Thomas
Revel
Amos
Morrison

Are gone before the Bills first 2nd round pick. Not really considering Porter because the Bills are in win now mode and need key contributors on rookie contracts, not 2 year projects.

So, all things considered, probably a best case scenario. Hairston isn’t a great tackler, so it’s hard to imagine the Bills going for him. I also think they are prime trade down candidates. If somebody is going to move up for Jaxson Dart, Bills should be lined up for that.
