The offseason begins

While true, Maye is their legitimate starting QB and Dobbs is a solid backup/mentor type. The roster spot for a 3rd QB is most likely better used at another position for another young, developing player.
QB's are top tier commodity though. If they can develop and showcase Milton over the next year or two and he still shows well, that could get a desperate team to throw a big package to them. I would rather take that gamble than to carry a 6th WR or 5th safety. Getting a fifth for a former 6th round QB who showed well and a 25 7th seems kinda meh.

I did a PFF mock with a trade to the Raiders for 68. Controlled the Saints for the trade down and the Raiders for the trade.

40: Landon Jackson, DE
56: Benjamin Morrison, CB
62: CJ West, DT
68: Jordan Phillips, DT
93: Isaiah Bond, WR

I took Morrison at 56 with Skattabo and Henderson on the board just to see how far they'd fall. Both didn't last until 62. In a re-do, I'd take the RB at 56 and try for Morrison at 62 and just take one DT.

I'm fine with keeping cook, and then you either tag him or, let him walk. If he walks, wouldn't we most likely get comped in the what, 2027 draft for him? Probly a 4th or a 5th?

If the comp is roughly right, then i think i would rather get contract year production out of him for another year, and hope for a comp pick. Rather than trading him now after only 3 seasons for say an early 3rd rounder. if it were possibly to get a higher pick than what Jeremy White suggested, then I might be enticed.

Eitherway, I think the least likely outcome is some kind of 3 year 40 million deal this summer, or even next summer. I don't wanna pay an RB (especially after an anomaly 18 TD season), unless it's Barkley level talent.

If they Cook walk after the 2025 season, a potential comp pick would be in 2027.

The NFL comp pick formula would be hard to know what round a potential Cook pick would be in. And then you have the question of whether or not they would get comp picks in 2027. Today, it doesn't look like they will get one in 2026.

Right now, they are -1 in 2026 Comp Pick Bingo (Hoecht & Palmer in and Hollins out).

Assuming we don't sign any more UFAs.......

Douglas would likely get us to even-up......and MAYBE we get something if/when Von signs somewhere? Maybe Smoot or Johnson or Cooper gets us a comp pick?

Ain't gonna get much in the way of comp picks next year, methinks

Von no because he was cut. Douglas yes. Cooper would be the other one. But remember the comp formula only applies to FAs signed before the deadline, which is typically the Monday after the draft. At this point anyone unsigned probably won't sign until after the deadline and thus won't count.

In regards to cook, I don't think you are getting a better running back in the draft.

You play out this year with him, and if he does well, you offer him a top 5 RB contract for 3 years. If he doesn't take that, you franchise tag him and listen to trade offers.

If he just has an average year, you let him walk.
And if he walks, take the comp pick. It would probably be a 5th, maybe a 4th if things break right. One year (or two with the franchise tag) of Cook is worth the difference between a 3rd and that IMO.

Von is outside the comp formula - he was a cut, not an expiring contract.

Von doesn't count because he was cut.

And the deadline for comp pick bingo is coming quick. My guess is that teams are waiting until the deadline passes to sign guys that are still out there and would factor into the bingo unless they are well underwater already.
