I feel bad for their fans. What in the actual f*** are they doing?
Keeping the best player on the roster for as long as they can and while they are trying to get public money for facilities upgrades and to distract from the Watson mess isn’t the worst idea ever.

If they traded Garrett for picks, there is zero reason or hope for anything anytime soon.

Classic sign and trade.

(A man can hope.)

I guess optics wise but there is zero reason or hope for anything with or without him. Now there's probably even less for the future. My god what percentage of the cap is being taken up by two players, neither of which do a thing to help the offense?

Man I'm glad we didn't get Garrett now. Guy went on ALL The shows, saying how much he wanted to go win a super bowl, how he's getting older, was willing to miss games, etc. Said it wasn't about money.

Cleveland waived some money in front of him and suddenly he's ok with losing.

This was the same shit that got them in trouble with Watson. He didn't want to go there, and then they dragged out all the money, fully guaranteed.

If I am a decent player for Cleveland, I'm demanding a trade now too. Maybe they'll throw some money at me.

With Garrett, they got into the playoffs in 2023 when they were 11-6.

They are an OK QB who doesn't turn the ball over away from being competitive for a WC spot.

That's the thing, in football fortunes can turn quick. But the Watson contract really hampers Cleveland. They basically need to get lucky with a QB they draft a la the Seahawks with Russell Wilson in the mid rounds--and if they have that they can be a real contender, not just a WC team. Get good cheap QB play to wait out the Watson contract so they can build around him. They have a decent number of solid pieces that got them to 11-6, but they need a QB.

The issue is going to continue to be their division is an absolute meat grinder

Without good QB play, their offense is going to be hilariously easy to shutdown.

So even if the defense is the #1 d in the NFL...they are going to struggle to be a .500 team.

I want nothing more than for Cleveland to live in quarterback purgatory for decades after doing the Watson deal. They can have pieces all they want like they do now but I don’t want them to have the quarterback to put them over for a very long time.

Mack just turned 34.

I think he’s cooked. Let someone else overpay him.
His play doesn’t suggest he’s cooked. I wouldn’t go big for him, nor do I think he will command a big payday. But to replace the Von type role, we could do a lot worse.

The true investment is going to have to be in the draft. I just hate the idea of that being the only investment.

Here’s the way I’d think of FA edge options. Would you rather have:
-Mack at 10 million per for 1-2 years; or
-Sweat at 20 million per for 4-5 years?

I’ll take category A, personally

330 for 6 is like…less than two million more than Tua gets.

Rich in guaranteed money. Feels like he could have easily pushed a deal far above “kind of what Dak makes, isn’t it?” in average value

I’m fully expect both Mack and Sweat to get paid more than that. More cap space than quality players available in FA. They are going to get stupid money.
