Buffalo Bills The offseason begins

If they trade Rousseau in the package to get Garrett and they cut Von Miller as expected, the DE depth is Garrett, Epenesa, and Solomon entering the offseason.

I don't think they can give up Groot to get Garrett.

But can they afford to pay Rousseau if they acquire Garrett?

That was part of my thinking in including him. That, and I figure Buffalo’s 1st round picks will be lower than what other teams offer so if the browns view Rousseau as a valuable younger asset for their rebuild and it gets the deal done, I do it all day.

I worry about a team like New England or Jacksonville offering high 1st round picks. I know Garrett wants to go to a contender but it may be outside of his control. The browns may just take the best offer. And we don’t know how Garrett views a team like New England with Maye and Vrabel and tons of cap space + a HOF owner + legacy of winning.

I looked when they signed Aiyuk and the Niners cap situation was going to be tough come 2025 spring and they need to pay Purdy what, 40+ million?

I think you're right in them being that contending team that had an off year so they have a much more valuable higher pick than us. But, i think they really need to use those picks on their own 53 man roster and will have cap casualties of their own. Paying for Garrett's salary plus shelling out assets to get him is probly gonna be suuper tough. They should have traded Aiyuk of course. hindsight is 20/20.

I do not follow the Bills as carefully as most of the posters on this board but a friend of mine claims Cooper and Allen both played with broken hands. I responded that was nonsense but he persisted. Anybody throw light on where this came from?

Where did you get the pic? I checked to see if he also follows say, the Chiefs, and he does not. But, when I entered the Bills into the search, it does NOT come up as a follower.

he does follow Josh Allen. But, he also follow Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and many others.

Edit: I don't see that he follows ANY teams. Bills, Chiefs, browns, etc. Only pro stars.

I believe Allen confirmed he broke his Non-throwing hand week one in Arizona when he leaped into the endzone and took that hit.

Cooper might have a fracture, unsure. idk if they really revealed it.

I vaguely remember hearing Cooper's original injury was a fracture, but I would have thought that would have been healed by the end of the season. I think he was banged up in some capacity still though.

Interesting side note: the dead cap for the Browns trading Garrett isn't pretty. Browns have some work to do to get under the cap, and moving Garrett leaving them a 36M dead cap will make things worse.

Which means any trade probably would be a post-6/1 trade, as that's the only way they get any cap relief for this year.

Why is that important? Because unless I'm mistaken, that means that 2025 picks aren't part of the picture, since the draft happens before then. Thus, this year's 1st and 2 2nds wouldn't be part of a trade package. Instead, it would be 2026 and 2027 picks. And that would be the same restriction on other teams trying to trade for him--this year's picks won't be involved.

Which means that they can go get Garrett and still use this year's picks to plug the other holes on defense. It's truly a win-now move, and they'll have less flexibility to plug holes in future years.

Now I sit back and wait for actual CBA experts to tell me where my reasoning is wrong.

Sounds right. Perhaps GMBB could trade a pick in this years draft for a higher pick in next years, to then include in the trade. Since we have 10 picks anyways.

Not sure you could get an unprotected 1st rounder for a 2nd rounder this year though, sounds like a stretch (i.e. trade Minnesota's 2nd rounder for Bengals 1st rounder next year). Then have 2 1st rounders next year for the Garrett trade post 6/1
