Buffalo Bills The offseason begins — NFL draft Apr. 24-26

I like Tyleik Williams as a 1DT. He reminds me of a young Pat Williams. I think he's got more to offer than just a run stuffer, and can grow into it. But you can't teach big men to move like he does.
Does he fit the D scheme is what I would be asking, remember who the coach still is... Will be interesting how the new staff effects this.

Dolphins looking to trade Jalen Ramsey.

Be sure to consider CB to Miami in your mocks now for sure.

It's weird....they aren't rebuilding...but they aren't addressing the issues this year.

I guess this is a 'soft reset' for them? They have to address the O-line, D-line, secondary. Lots of holes and a coach who won't be coming back if they miss the playoffs next year.

Ramsey once called Josh Trash, so don't see that working here along with the cost on the contract(24M), inter-division rival, compensation, etc. Even wonder if they end of waving him.
Ramsey got humbled. Pretty sure he said he was wrong about Allen, and Im sure it's water under the bridge for Allen/Ramsey anyways.

I do agree his contract is too rich. I doubt he'll cost much more than a mid round pick, but maybe my gauge is off. It does seem unlikely we pursue him or that the Dolphins trade to an in-division foe who has whooped that ass for the past 5 years (about to be 6!)

There is a lot of talent bypassed to get those two thirds
Like who?

I think adding those two thirds is worth the potential gap between Trey Amos and Morrison. Honestly, if Morrison didn't have the hip injury, he might be off the board before 30.

For reference, this is almost always the CB/DE/DT board in that simulator when you get to 30:

Where does Sanders end up ? Giants and Steelers I see the most.

Sounds like the Rams like Dart.

New Orleans will need QB now also with Carr out apparently (shoulder).

Quick web search suggests he's a Rd #5-6 prospect, and cites the paradox of outstanding RAS and advanced numbers, yet minimal contributions / production numbers. Referred to as a dart throw. I'd throw a dart if the defensive roster needs are filled. Could always make the team on special teams, or stash on PS to develop his route-running diversity. Anyone of the usual draft hounds here (@Husko, @Der Jaeger, others) know anything or have an opinion?
My most prevailing thought is it's pretty obvious who Talbot's "source" is given the glow up he gives this guy in that tweet

Regarding the idea of trading back, I think my thought remains that if one of these guys is there, I probably stick and pick. If not, I'm 100% getting out of there (I'd also take Starks in a heartbeat, but think he will be gone).

Brugler is out with his full mock. I don't love his haul for us but it's not awful. No interest in a first round safety - part of McDermott's value is coaching up secondary guys with lesser pedigree. Already spent a 2nd on Bishop, spend elsewhere.

And I'm a broken record at this point, but any mock that has us picking 12, 10, or even 8 times is missing the mark. For example, are the Bills cutting SVPG after one year to make room for a new 5th round center? Consolidation is the name of the game this year.

Buffalo Bills

1 (30). S Malaki Starks, Georgia
2 (56). DT Joshua Farmer, Florida State
2 (62). CB Shavon Revel Jr., East Carolina
4 (109). Edge Bradyn Swinson, LSU
4 (132). WR Jaylin Lane, Virginia Tech
5 (169). C Seth McLaughlin, Ohio State
5 (170). LB Kobe King, Penn State
5 (173). OT Myles Hinton, Michigan
6 (177). RB Brashard Smith, SMU
6 (206). TE Gavin Bartholomew, Pittsburgh

See....I LOVE the haul for us. Starks is the next Hamilton/Branch/DeJean. He'd be a MAJOR upgrade to what we already have in the safety room and frankly, I'd love it if we actually moved up into the 20s to get him if he falls. Farmer, while a bit light, fits what the Bills like at the 1-tech spot. Revel is a huge talent that's only falling due to injury.

The rest of the picks are fine. I totally agree that we need to consolidate picks and I can't see us making every pick. But, I think this is a real good haul in the unlikely scenario we keep every pick.

The Bills spent a ton of money in free agency, both by retaining homegrown talent and plugging key gaps. Remaining on the roster are two outstanding holes, however. Rasul Douglas is still unsigned after his contract expired, which leaves 996 outside cornerback snaps from last season to fill. And at defensive tackle, Larry Ogunjobi and DaQuan Jones are stop-gap options -- both over 30, both on one-year deals -- opposite Ed Oliver. Ogunjobi is even facing a six-game suspension to start the season. Help is needed there.
Buffalo could address these two needs in either order -- the DT and CB classes are good in both Round 1 and Round 2. Corner is the more dire need, so I like Trey Amos (Ole Miss) at No. 30. General manager Brandon Beane gave a great quote about tackling at the corner position at the NFL annual league meeting last month, and Amos fits that description, while also bringing the length the Bills typically covet at the position. If they elect to go defensive tackle, fellow Rebel Walter Nolen -- a slippery penetrator -- is their type.

Speaking of the Bills' type, I am interested to see if they finally zag at defensive tackle. They've been worryingly neglectful of the run-stuffing archetype, but Tyleik Williams (Ohio State) is an elite run stuffer with a developmental pass rush profile that may be available in the second round. Joshua Farmer (Florida State) might also be a more reasonable target. And should defensive tackle go first and cornerback go second, another Seminole -- Azareye'h Thomas -- is the name to watch.

Those first two positions are nonnegotiables for a perfect grade. After that, I'd like to see depth picks at safety and guard to score an A-plus.
Very nice little summary for us from ESPN.

I hear what you’re saying about positional value of safety and already investing in Bishop, but I’d be eats tic with Starks. Look at the impacts Hamilton and Branch had on their defenses after they both fell because of testing and positional value. We never have a chance at top tier talent picking at the end of the first. Starks falling into our laps would be a rare opportunity.

I've done enough mocks to confidently say that Beane should be trading down, or trying to, unless someone falls. And the player I've seen fall most is Starks.

Fair points both. I just haven't been sold on the Hamilton (enormous) or DeJean (athlete) examples for Starks being underrated. Branch is a fair one and I could see Starks following that path going from strong SEC D to strong NFL D seamlessly. He is a true free safety which would compliment Bishop well, but I'm worried about his tackling. He's tiny and doesn't have great instincts crashing down. There's an outside chance he ends up as an elite nickel imo. 30 feels fine for him, but not a steal.

I like our safety room better than most I imagine. Bishop, Rapp, Forrest (I think there's something there), and Hamlin/mid-round rookie feels like enough to get us to the top.

To me, Kevin Winston would have been in the same 1st-2nd convo as Starks if he hadn't blown his knee. Taking a flyer on him from 60-90 feels like a wiser use of assets with our other needs considered, even if he's more of a box player. He can slowly ramp up to contribute this year when it counts and beyond. I like Jonas Sanker a lot in the 4th too as an early special teams guy with more potential. Nohl Williams or Zy Alexander as CB3s who might end up as safeties also. Malachi Moore has gotten Micah Hyde comps. Ransom, Mukuba, Reed - I like the safety class more after the first guys.
