At my job we do plastic coating for steel strip. The "plastic" is in paint form applied with rollers onto the strip.

In one special product the paint is actually glue. The glue-coated steel strip is used for manufacturing brake pads. Leaving our plant, the layer of glue is non-sticky, and they heat it up at the brake pad factory to make it sticky.

That's paint glue, and it explains plenty.

Ha 40 years in the automotive world and I never knew that. I love this place.

while not paint glue related, I worked in a "plastics' factory. We made screen printing ink for t-shirts. a lot less ink and a lot more liquid plastic. Thick, nasty stuff. You (and anyone else) may be wearing a t-shirt that we made the ink that made the graphics. We made it for big companies like Adidas and Nike who have big screen printing outfits in Central and South America.

We made other liquid plastics. The wire covering plastic for airplane electrics (not a big runner), the foam underneath mats that help it "stick' to the floor, and other such plastics.

Isn’t glue supposed to be a substance that bonds two surfaces of decent weight together? Paint just bonds itself a surface, not necessarily enough sticking power to hold anything more than dirt (ugh i hate painting) or similar weight. Not that you want the dirt or anything else in there.

glue as an adhesive doesn't have to be strong - a weak failure of an adhesive made 3M bazillions once they found i's use by inventing post-it notes.

so, the minimal weight of the pigment doesn't disqualify the rest of the paint from being glue.

i stand by my assertion and hope you join me. we're through the looking glass here, people.

But to get back to the original point (I know, look what board I'm on), no one huffs the pigment alone.

So whether you are sniffing paint or glue, there's no need to refer to it as "paint glue."

Because there is what we in the industry call pre-treatment and primer, on which the paint will actually remain.

My point is, if and when you need to use primer specifically for better adhesion, the paint is not much of a glue.

If I was selling glue that needs glue for it to stick on stuff, my glue wouldn't be held in very high regard.

And if I tried telling them that, yes, but there's pigment in my glue to give it nice color, they would tell me, guy, what you got is a paint.

You need specialists like my lot for glue paint.
