They are selling hope with some up and coming players that haven't put it all together yet for a variety of reasons.

I'm not defending Dorion's choices but the weaknesses in Ottawa plus injuries on both teams have contributed to Belleville not doing as well as we might have expected. There were nights the B-Sens could barely stitch a roster together.

When was the last time the B-Sens made the playoffs. Not having a competitive team down there year after year has hurt prospect development.

You are absolutely right about the past but this year they looked to be much more competitive. The younger guys (rookies and 2nd year guys) are/were of better caliber but too many unfortunate injuries and key call-ups really hurt the B-Sens.

The Sens are last in the division and the B Sens are too. Dorion is entering the holiday break at the basement.

What a pathetic job he’s done from top to bottom.

And how hard can it possibly be to build a good solid farm system?

The Sharks farm team is full of nobody prospects 20-22 years old and that club is absolutely dominating

Undrafted 20 year old goalie Josef Korenar

Hard for the worst management in the league.

Dorion still overvalues grit and fighting. Levi's blog pointed out the B-Sens last year had a bunch of face-punchers and so on. Once these guys get replaced by players that can...wait for it...play hockey, the B-Sens will rise and so will we.
I think Pierre Dorion will need to be really humiliated somehow to get it, like finish bottom 3-5 this year and Bingo following suit. It's the only way he sees the light, outside of losing his job.

I can't imagine Dorion getting canned. No one else will want that GM job, it will be like when Carolina couldn't get anyone.

If Dorion becomes Melnyks next scape goat I'm sure some equally desperate and unqualified candidate will take the reigns. It's hard to imagine Dorion leaving under Melnyk but after Clouston debacle it seems even his buddies aren't safe when a finger need to be pointed.

Weren’t the “facepunchers” the protection for our prospects?

I think so... then all our prospects moved up.

It's crazy that we might finally get the first overall pick and it's the only year we don't have our first.

Kakko is a franchise player. The next Forsberg.

Dorion should have been fired after going all-in on Duchene and then have the season blow up in his face.

We’re you predicting the season to blow up at the time? Hindsight is 20-20, you were probably one of the many people on here calling for him to trade for Duchy.

That pick sure looks like its gonna be bottom 3 at this point.

This one asset will be worth more than any one we are going to get back for trading Duchene.

Hoffman is a ppg on pace for 40 goals.

Karlsson is back to killing it and both Demelo and Tierney are back to being what they are.

We suck. Call it hindsight, but part of a GM's job is to predict, so ya, Dorion is f***ing garbage and has helped ruin this team with our assistant GM Melnyk.

After last yr's disaster of a season changes had to be made which included cost cutting measures for this owner. I assume it was determined that the team would rebuild this yr & that EM would not need to put any money into the team but instead cut costs until the team was a contender again, at least I think that was their strategy.

PD started by moving Turris & got a better centre back, then started moving their vets one at a time to save money, reduce payroll & get some assets that would help in the rebuild. They traded Hoffman & EK & got back a number of assets that they could use on the team & in future. They decided to play their young guys & several have emerged as very good players in Chabot, White, Tkachuk & to a lesser degree Lajoie, Harpur, Jaros & Paul. After the disaster of this season changes should continue to be made.

They have a few building blocks who could make an impact next season in Batherson, Chlapik, Brown, Formenton, Wolanin, Hogberg & maybe Balcers & Gustavsson. Then they have Norris, Nurmi & JBD along with the SJ first, along with their own first in 2020 plus any other pick that could come from nowhere to be a player for them. As of now, Ottawa has 8 picks in 7 rds in the 2019 draft, 10 picks in 2020 draft & 8 more picks in the 2021 draft, 23 picks in 3 drafts should replenish their cupboards. They should have more than that if they continue to trade their older players for picks & prospects & they could sign a few more NCAA (free wallets) over the next few seasons.

Of course, the most important part for fans will be whether Duchene & Stone are re-signed along with Dzingel & Ceci to a lesser extent before the end of this season. I imagine if all these changes happen that the team will be expected to contend for a playoff spot by the 2020 season, if all goes right. If not, I expect changes in management at that point, again. It's not all rosy, but neither is it the end of the world, hopefully their prospects turn into the players we all hope they can be & they become a contender again sooner rather than later.

I wanted Duchene, but not at that price. Hell, when the rumours came out that it was going to be Turris plus, I thought it was too much.

Exactly; It was pretty clear he gave up too much and took a big chance and then unbeknownst to most of us he waffled. He might be a good amateur scout but I can't stand the guy as a GM. He is very close to the top of the list of things not to like about the Ottawa Senators. I mean Melnyk is is boss , which isn't ideal, and he undoubtedly puts financial constraints on him, but he is the hockey guy making hockey decisions. I think he is absolutely brutal.

Nah.

I think anyone with common sense knew there would be a big change that Erik would need a long recovery time from such a dramatic injury. Going "all in" during a year where your best player is in recovery mode is idiotic by any standard. And overpaying for that "all in" piece...beyond idiotic.

Yes and adding to the problem was that it was not the first or last trade he made and lost value wise.
