I still listen to the morning show everyday and while it isn't as good without Simmer, it is still enjoyable.

Here is something to consider
2021 draft
Boucher..a bust, but was never a scorer
Osta, a semi bust, but was never a scorer
2020 draft
Timmie..point getter, not a scorer
Greig..a point getter, not a scorer
Jar... a bust
Sok..a bust
2019 draft
Pinto..a two way player, not a scorer
2018 draft
Brady T... a scorer. One guy and is injured
2017 draft
Bowers... abut, was not a scorer
Formento.. a scorer..may end up in jail
Batherson.. a point getter, not a scorer
2016 draft
Brown,,a bust, was never a scorer
Dahlen..a acorer, but a bust
2015
White..Not a scorer, and a bust
Gagne..a scorer, but was in jai;
Chlapik..a scorer, but a bust
7 draft years.. ONE GUY..... one goal scorer. And even he (Brady), turned into one and did not come into the league as one
FA/trades
Giroux.. WAS a scorer. Now Father time has slowed him down
Gaudette...WAS a scorer in College. Could not duplicate it in the pros
Amadio.. WAS a scorer in Junior. Could not duplicate it in the pros
Perron.. A point getter, not a scorer. And Father time is slowing him down
Cozens (D.) .. WAS a goal scorer in junior. Has not duplicated it in the pros
The team is, where it is! No scorer was ever drafted and worked out. No scorer was ever been traded for or FA signed and has worked out, or has not suffered the sting of Father time.
In fact in Ottawa's 32 year history. ONE GUY has fit that bill.. The "Heater".
Mike Hoffman fits the bill and that's what you get when you swing hard for a scorer. I don't care that he was a late round pick, such a boom or bust proposition unless you're drafting very high. And once you get them be careful what you wish for because they come with warts.I am listening to JR and the TSN1200 poll on Ottawa's scoring wows.

Just imagine Rogan said itNo one listens to the Team 1200 bud.
In an 82 game year!!!! 20 goals for your top 6 forwards???? Not GoodSo, what's the threshold for a goal scorer?
Batherson has had multiple years pacing at ~30 goals, pacing around 24 this year.
Stu has hit 39, last year had the wrist injury, this year is pacing at 24
Pinto is pacing around 23 with limited PP time, and on the 3rd line.
Norris was definitely a goal scorer before he blew out his shoulder and we traded him, though we didn't draft him. traded for Cozens has been pacing around 30 as a sen, hit 30 with Buf before things went south for him.
Lets say we use Brady as the threshold for goal scorer in terms of Goals per game, since 2019-2020, he's at .38 a game, how many guys a draft hit that?
2015: 7 guys averaged .38/ game from the 19-20 to 23-25 seasons, a couple more close.
2016: 5 guys, 1 more close
2017: 3 guys (including Norris, Batherson is 7th in G/gp at .29)
2018: 1 guy (Tkachuk)
2019: 2 guys (Pinto is 7th in the draft class at .23, cozens is 9th)
2020: 0 guys (Stu is #1 at .31/g)
I won't go further than 2020 because it's too soon, though I doubt we add any.
So, 6 draft years, we drafted a top 10 goal scorer in 4 of them, traded for one as a prospect in another, then swapped that same guy for a different top 10 guy from another draft class.
In an 82 game year!!!! 20 goals for your top 6 forwards???? Not Good
The Sens have 2 guys at 20. Barring a miraculous end of season, they will all top out at 25.
They have one guy nearing 30 (Brady T.). Since he is injured, he will most likely top out at 35.
Goal per game in the NHL as of now, for the 2025/2025 season; 3.00 .
This matches the 2005/06 season.
The 05/06 season had:
6 guys with 20 or more goals... A 7th, Spezza had 19, but only played 68 games.
2 guys had 40 or more (Heater and Alfie)
1 guy had 50 (Heater)
Alfie missed 5 games. he had 45 in sight
Eaves missed 24 games, he had 30 in sight
Fisher missed 14 games, he had 25 in sight
Redden missed 17 games, he had 15 in sight
Havlat missed 64 games, he was or could have been a 40 goal man. INJURIES.
One D-man, Chara had 16, even though he played only 71 games
NO D-man will hit double digit goals in 2024/2025, unless Sanderson lights it up in the last 12 games. He is at 7 now and needs 3 more just to get to 10.
Chara may have hit 20, if he played all 82.
The 2005/2006 Sens are a definition of goal scoring. The 2024/2025 team is NOT.
You seem to be twisting the subject here. I never said we aren't having issues scoring goals this year, I challenged your implied reasoning as to why.
You put the blame at least partially on drafting, I simply compared our drafting to the rest of the league.
I won't compare this team to the 05/06 team that was the highest scoring in franchise history coming out of the lockout with literally double the PP opportunities resulting in scoring being concentrated among the guys getting PP mins , that would serve absolutely no purpose.
As it stands, we have
Brady who should finish around 35 goals
Stu who should finish around 25
Bath who should finish around 25
Pinto around 20
And Norris who was on pace for 30 but we traded for a guy that's been pacing at ~28 since joining the team.
The defending cup champs have:
Reinhart who will finish around 40
Bennett 27
M.Tkachuk at 27 (35 pace)
Barkov at 22
Verheaghe at 20.
Lundell around 18
I don't expect us to score like the cup champs, but we don't compare that poorly to them.
You know what might actually be the difference? Perron is pacing at 25g, in spite an incredibly cold start, due to missing time for family issues and a subsequent back issue. Instead of 20-25 goals from him (or more if he'd not had a cold start), we'll probably see 9 or 10. Instead of 3.08 Team goals a game, we're at 2.9. Instead of the 12 most goals we're 20th.
