On the flip side, given all the moves the summer, I can't imagine Capuano is on a very long leash, especially with a coach like Bylsma out there.

A slow start+ Capuano firing early+ Bylsma hiring could equate to higher finish in the standings.

I think what we really want is a fast start to inspire some confidence, a rash of injuries to keep them in the race but enough of an excuse to keep Capuano till about January, and then death spiral of "losing the locker room" to get them far enough out that they go into sell mode at the deadline and get some of the draft picks back. Then...

Milbury cleaned up Maloneys mess to a certain degree by getting some assets back for Schneider , Wendel Clark (Kenny Jonsson and the draft pick used to select either Brewer or Luongo)

Milbury couldnt squeeze anything out of Toronto for Muller though unless those future considerations amounted to anything .

Chris Lamoriello is the poster child for why Nepotism sucks.

Are we really still giving Lou credit for a no-brainer coach hire and a team that has proven to have been little more than an over-achieving flash in pan born of circumstance with players that for the most part he had nothing to do with assembling as opposed to a team that could sustain excellence over many years?

Who knows? But however it happened, or whether it would or wouldn't have without Lou, it's not like it was some stroke of genius, pulling some diamond in rough unknown hockey mastermind from some D3 program in Idaho. Trotz was a Cup winner and available and Lou was willing to pay him more than Leonsis/MacLellan was.
