Why do people find it so odd, that hockey teams hire guys involved with hockey at the highest level??? There is nepotism at every level of every industry Worldwide.

I would love to see some fans of other teams post a similar chart to prove how wide spread this is.

It already shows it involves two other teams in the Flyers chart. Lol.

It's a big network involving all 32 teams. So it's just standard NHL cronyism, which is also pervasive at basically every level of society as well.

BREAKING: People with experience in the field of work in which they are applying are more likely to get job than those with no experience.

OFFICIAL, albeit incomplete. There is no way to fully encapsulate the extent of this cancer, and it deserves to be known by all. Big props to Hanrahan who, from what I could gather, basically worked his way up. Good job. Note the 2 former NHLers who played both on the Flyers and Wild lol

Just the tip of the horseshit iceberg in what is becoming the NHL's biggest joke of a franchise. This is the result of salary cap implementation, where value can't be bought in FA but must be pried out of the margins. In other words, you have to be smart. These cronies are not, but year after year more are packed into hockey ops. In fact, they're unable to identify the valuable attributes that drive success in the NHL and many hold positions based on camaraderie, not merit. The archaic hockey views that permeate the organization prohibit any optimism until literally everything changes.

Dark times in Flyerdom

without starting a war

If you had to walk down the street in a Flyers Jersey or a Chicago Blackhawks Jersey--which do you wear? Flyers

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like the biggest issue always seems to be goaltending.

Drafted Richards and Carter. Then Giroux. Had some success and successfully made trades for a player like Pronger, but missing goaltending hurt them.

Decided to go in a different direction and made some nice moves. Traded Carter Columbus for Voracek and a 1st (Couturier) and Richards for Schenn and Simmonds. That's 4 Forwards that were good, or very good at various points for the flyers.

Schenn was traded for a 1st + iirc.

Flyers drafted Provorov, Konecny, Farabee and a few others that are helping the team right now. Made a trade for Risto, which wasn't the best because Risto sucks, but the Ellis trade was decent.

Hart took a step back or he's now playing at the level suited for him, or whatever.

In short I'm not a flyers fan, so I'm sure those in charge suck, but a solid goalie would have taken them much farther

They made those moves to fit Bryz in and he was gone within 3 years. The other two went on to win the cup twice each. Flyers haven't even made the ECF since then.

Not sure "nice" is the way to describe it.

I mean nice as in the players they got in return weren't duds

This type of nepotism is common but how many time times do you see 2 former fired GMs have such a prominent role in an organization.

Also Fletcher bringing in the Wild crew he failed with is really funny, but business as usual for the NHL

Nepotism isn't really a problem when the people being brought in are still very competent- see Detroit. It becomes a problem when you have trash bringing more trash in.

I'd say it's still a problem. Competence is arguable. Another importance consideration is the growth of the sport, which is difficult if front office positions are largely limited to insiders, with few exceptions.

I suspect most teams look like this.

The Kings can't get rid of people. If you've ever played a game for the Kings and have at least visited the campus of Bowling Green State University, you have a job for life.

This is awesome. Other old boys clubs around the league dont look much different though
