We really need a top 2 pick this year if we want to be contender. We lack of a game breaking forward who can make the difference like all contending team have
We need at least 3 more top 3 picks.

2 to actually draft a 1st line player (since we maybe have one in Caufield... Suzuki is not a #1C on a good team) and 1 so Hughes can draft his 10000th D-man.

I’m just looking at Ottawa/Buffalo in our division and I’m like yes where far from
being contender

We need more elite pieces

In my eyes, this could be the last season of the tank. Two more top-40 picks in 2024 and then with all the 2025 draft capital the team has amassed, they're in a position to sign a young RFA star to a massive offer sheet. They could pay the compensation for an offer sheet up to $8.58m and still have a full 7-round draft or if they went up to the $10.725m threshold, they'd still have picks in rounds 2-7.

Martin Necas @ up to $8.58m

Elias Pettersson @ up to $10.725m

IMO, building up to and executing something like this in such a short tenure would make HuGo a legend.

I really like Cellebrini who is the type
If player I love and Eiserman

I will be an expert on Celebrini by year end since I will see every game he plays but so far for a 1st OA I don't like players that coast too much. But I assume we end up picking in the 5-7 range (which is where I had us last year) pre lottery.

Will be very interesting to see but starting to wonder if this draft class will suck. I do like Eiserman a lot but like Michkov I worry about how we can win in the playoffs with Caufield and another undersized one way forward.

Looking at Ottawa and Buffalo, you'd be looking at 8 more seasons of sucking to achieve their asset accumulation.

They're only gonna pick high this year and next year it will be around where the Sabres got Benson; so not impossible.

If we don't win the lottery, we have to hope we can get Demidov from his Russian/injury related fall, or Catton. If neither are available, the next best option with be Brandsegg-Nygard who won't solve the elite talent piece but would give us another potential 30 goal guy with size, bite and defensive play.

Eiserman isn’t that small though and he could be a great fit with Dach

Good start... a loser point is never ideal for the tank, but far too many positives from that game to begrudge the result.

Imo is very possible for these teams to finish lower than the Habs, also considering Habs have one of the easiest schedules in the league:

Canucks, Ducks, Coyotes, Sharks, Blues, Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Flyers, Capitals and maybe the Preds depending on Saros. I predicted the Habs finishing between 21-24th but I could also see them finishing as low as 27th. Any lower is very unrealistic

Don’t know if it’s really one if the easiest schedule in the league.

Next game against the Wild, they always have a hard time vs this team. They are like 6-16 against them in the last 15 years.

It will definitely be a hard physical game.

Then you have Washington, Buffalo, NJ, Columbus, Winnipeg and Vegas.

NJ and Vegas are top teams. Winnipeg has a lot of firepower with one of the top goalies im the league. Columbus and Buffalo have young teams that can do damage.

They could get some wins, but it won’t be easy. Chicago has the worst offense in the league, the second we face teams that can create on chances with more than one line they will struggle.

And next month they will be facing many of them.

Hugues said on french radio that the Habs will consider wins more important than player development in 3-4 years. So that give a really good idea of how long the rebuilding phase should last.
So, we can expect Anderson, Monahan, Savard all going at the deadline.............unless the development takes an upswing a season or two quicker than expected.
