It's time for my annual big list of interesting players who may go on waivers. Looking over the rosters, I found that this year has a much smaller than past number of players that are intriguing. So I changed things up and decided to track every player signed to an NHL contract that is waiver eligible and at the bottom of a roster. I also separated out goalies since the Canucks may have a particular interest in goalies. In contrast to forwards and defencemen, the potential goalies are interesting. I've also migrated this list, and will keep it updated, on my NHL Transaction Tracker spreadsheet. As always, I'm open to suggestions.

Former 2nd round pick in 2019, Matthew Robertson could be a good target that is also likely to hit the WW.

6’4” and 210 pounds and a very good skater for his size. Also has a good head for the game but has been unable to put it altogether.

But, the Rangers have a tough defence to crack.

“He likely lost two years of development due to Covid. Hartford has been a train wreck for development, and the Rangers organization itself hasn’t exactly been great with developing prospects either.”​

Hopefully the team takes a long look at any decent depth dman that can move the puck. Friedman being the team's best puck mover out of the #5-#8 dmen on the roster isn't ideal.

New SJ HC. Unless Bailey played for the guy in the AHL. Guessing SJ is aiming to see if some of the kids with the Barracudas can play, which the New HC would very familar with.

Their current head coach was an assistant in the NHL last season, not the head coach in the AHL.

Surprised Di Guiseppe was waived. Been pretty good through most of the pre season game and established himself as good on the PK. Decent in the playoffs last year. Maybe trying to slip him through now while teams try to untangle their own situations. Signing of Sherwood, to an extent, put Di Guiseppe job on the line.

There's actually a guy who's name is Fix-Wolansky? Yep....Trey Fix Wolansky, who carved out a pretty decent career in the Dub and had 102 points in his final season with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Still only 25, he had a 72 point season with the Cleveland Monsters in 2022-23, including 29 goals.

But he was a 7th round draft pick by Columbus in 2018, and one check of Hockey DB, you can understand why. He's listed at 5'7" and 191. The kid must be built like a block of granite.

Can't help pulling for the guy.....and for Columbus as well. If any team deserves better, it's the Blue Jackets and their fans.

I was looking at depth charts. If CBJ keeps up Mateychek and Jiricek, Christiansen and Harris are the likely 7-8 guys. Wonder if Christiansen hits waivers.

Walker Duehr to me is an NHL player and I was baffled when he was waived/not claimed last year and surprised again that he's on waivers now. I think he could play in the bottom-6 for virtually any team in the league, Barclay Goodrow sort of skillset although without the C utility.

Would expect Mateychek to go to the A.
He has a July 2004 birthday. So, in that odd scenario where if he plays less than half the season in the NHL, he wouldn't hit UFA until 2032 as he wouldn't turn 27 by July 1, 2031 so if he doesn't accure this season towards UFA, it gets pushed back a year. So, unless he's a regular playing good minutes, think CBJ sends him down and after the TDL when they move out Provorov would they bring him up.

Jiricek, probably sticks.

Sad reality for smaller Dmen. If you aren't a top notch puck mover or point producer (basically good enough to be a regular top 4 guy), teams rather go bigger on their 3rd pairing. He's now at an age where he's no longer a prospect.

Probably his best shot of being on an NHL lineup moving forward is to be like Alex Biega, capable of playing F as well and basically get close 40 games as but 25 on D and like 15 at F or something.

The trouble with making a waiver claim, is that you're basically forced to keep the guy on your NHL roster. So few teams have any cap room to add anyone.

Even some of the bottom-feeders in the NHL who might be able to use a couple of the guys hitting the waiver wire, aren't biting for some reason.

CBJ fans are saying he's been really good and looked like a top four D. There's somewhat of an expectation on that board that they deal Provorov.

Maybe there's an internal worry about demoting guys outplaying their NHL D after how public Jiricek was.

Left side is Werenski, provorov as the top 2. Severson, Jiricek and Gudbranson are your right side guys. So the kid is likely to get paired with Gudbranson as I doubt they pair the 2 kids together. Severson will eat the big hard minutes on the right side. Is that the best for his development? Probably not. They have others like Harris so that they don’t need to rush the kid.

Again unless the kid is playing like 17/18 minutes a game at a good level probably better to let him get 20 minutes in the A than 12 in the nhl.
