00 is stupid. One of the few things I agree with FIFA on, where it is not a recognised number in football (soccer) either.
I knew there was a story behind it but couldn't remember; Gracias! He wore it with the Padres and the Florida Marlins before switching to #18 at his next stop.
The reason Benito wore 09 instead of 9 (which he originally wore with the Padres) was because he didn't like how the strap from his chest protector intersected and obscured the #9 on his back when he was in the field, so he switched to 09 and the that left the strap running between the two digits.
I knew there was a story behind it but couldn't remember; Gracias!
Did he every play at the SkyDome against the Jays? You recall?
Then my memory is failing me.Santiago played for the Blue Jays from 1997 to 1998, but I assume you are asking if he played at the SkyDome while he wore 09, and I don't believe he did.
He wore that number for the Padres in 1991 and 1992 and with the Marlins the two seasons after that, but Inter-League Play didn't start in MLB until 1997, which is actually the first season Santiago played for the Jays, but wore #18.
Then my memory is failing me.
Maybe he was with the Blue Jays and thr announcers were simply telling the story of 09 and my memory changed it to him wearing the number at that time
Don't particularly care about 0. 00 confuses me though- if that goes, why not 01, 02 etc?
The NFL has been allowing players to wear 0 since 2023. It's still jarring to me to see that number on the field, haha.

I think the NHL should at least allow goalies to wear the single 0. I've never been a fan of the double zero though.
Late in the 1985 baseball season, the Blue Jays fielded a team that boasted three starters who's jersey number added up to just 1.
They had Al Oliver at first base, wearing #0, Cliff Johnson was the DH, wearing #00 and Tony Fernandez was the shortstop wearing #1.
I always found it interesting that 0 and 00 were considered two different numbers.
makes perfect sense for a catcher
makes perfect sense for a catcher
0 runs 9 innings
How about 000? Here me out, it would look awesome. There’s something clean and bold about it. It’s different. It stands out without being over the top. And for a goalie? Come on. 000 would look straight-up intimidating stitched across the back of a jersey.
Let’s make it happen.
So "02" would be oerfect:I used to play catcher and my preferred number was 2, because 2 is the numerical shorthand for the catcher in baseball scorekeeping.
Do you think the NHL fixed their Windows 95 database and should the number 0 be brought back?
It's more common in the NBA and since 2023, the NFL allows players to wear 0 except for offensive and defensive linemen.
Not before Mel Angelstad got hold of it!NHL also does not like 69 for some strange reason, I thought everyone liked the number 69?
We always said it as "Double Zero" in my neighborhood. It was like that Sandlot movie, without the baseball eating dog.Late in the 1985 baseball season, the Blue Jays fielded a team that boasted three starters who's jersey number added up to just 1.
They had Al Oliver at first base, wearing #0, Cliff Johnson was the DH, wearing #00 and Tony Fernandez was the shortstop wearing #1.

Kinda crazy only 1 skater has ever rocked #1 in the NHL. I wonder about preseason games, AHL, international competition, etcI’m ambivalent in either direction about zero.
However, since goalies now wear whatever number they want, skaters need to start wearing number one.
The last goalie who won Stanley Cup wearing number one was Bernie Parent in 1976.
Set it free.
So it is the white of numbers? Some people don't consider 0 to be a number at all, but rather, the absence of numbers.
Zero goes back to the year 1200 and Fibonaci. Some people don't consider 0 to be a number at all, but rather, the absence of numbers.
Shoresy wears that number.NHL also does not like 69 for some strange reason, I thought everyone liked the number 69?
When I started going to pro hockey games in the IHL in November of 1964, the goalies were usually #1 and #20. There were 9 forwards and 5 Dmen dressed for games. With roster expansion over the years, goalies started being #29 or #30 in addition to #1.Kinda crazy only 1 skater has ever rocked #1 in the NHL. I wonder about preseason games, AHL, international competition, etc
