''The NHL officially banned number 0 and 00 in 1996. This was due to technical issues with the league's player database and the inability to accurately record players using those numbers.

While some players, like John Davidson and Marty Biron, wore 0 and 00 in the past, the league has since restricted jersey numbers to whole numbers between 1 and 98, with 99 retired in honor of Wayne Gretzky.''

Do you think the NHL fixed their Windows 95 database and should the number 0 be brought back?

It's more common in the NBA and since 2023, the NFL allows players to wear 0 except for offensive and defensive linemen.

No, it was dumb then and even dumber now.

I’ve always worn 0 or 00 in organized soccer and hockey. I played goalkeeper in soccer and shut-down defense in hockey so Zero was the number of goals I wanted to allow. (And usually the number I score in a season, but that’s neither here nor there)

No reason players shouldn’t be allowed to wear 0. If the players think it’s dumb, they lll never pick it and it won’t matter.

Better they open 3 digits dress numbers.
Who would be the first player to copy Ricky and wear jersey 420?

I have a friend from high school (I even dated him for a bit) who was a goalie in lacrosse. Most of his online usernames and such were variations of "zero goals" or whatever for that reason. Sometimes he'd get asked about it from people who interpreted it to mean that he had zero goals in life, but then he clarified to them that he was a goalie in lacrosse, much to his own amusement.
