The NHL has fined NJDevils head coach Sheldon Keefe $25,000 for "unprofessional conduct directed at the officials" late in Sunday's game at Vegas.

Give me a break. The no-call was fine. It would've been fine with a call as well. The whole play was a nothing play that was a borderline trip.
The complaining about this is comical at this point.

If what @Tie Domi Esquire said is correct and Keefe was testified on behalf of David Frost, I honestly don't even care about a conflict of interest and how it impacts him at that point.
After going through a bunch of links and then doing a bunch of digging afterwards, it does appear he more likely than not testified on behalf of Frost. Not against him.
Also on the back of an earlier penalty on Hughes where he lost an edge and tripped a Vegas player. The same type of play only less violent/consequential.

Regarding the backstory between Sheldon Keefe and Wes McAuley:
The fact that the NHL has completely ignored this obvious conflict of interest that would be deemed as gross negligence in any other reputable organization, just confirms that this league is run by unserious people.
There is absolutely no way the league should be letting McAuley referee games with Keefe behind one of the benches.

Hughes was called for that earlier. This was a player tripping another from behind with their skate getting tangled up. And tripping doesn't have to be intentional to be called.

Just got a better look at the play...I'm a Rangers fan and I feel like abusing the official over not calling something that took my hated rivals' best player out for the season? And $25000 for words while they have max fines of $5000 for shit that actually may deserve a punishment $25000? Backwards shit.

This isn't the callout you think it is.
People come from all walks of life and not everyone is equipped to handle every job equally, just like you probably wouldn't be a great firefighter or social worker or Supreme Court judge, etc. That poster didn't claim to be able to do a better job but wants accountability from the referees in the league which is a totally fair ask, but the NHL's referee culture is likely rotten.
It's clear to most that the NHL has a refereeing issue. Everything from inconsistent rule calling throughout the season and playoffs, personal beef, bad reviews, game management, you name it and it happens with far too much regularity.
The problem isn't just with the guys in stripes running the show, but the fact that the NHL allows their actions with apparent impunity without consequence. The only victims, strangely, is the quality of the product (player/coach fines and suspensions) but the product is what we, the fans, are here for and not the zebras.
Weirdly (related/unrelated), but while I hate sports gambling, the NHL has started to clean up their act with regards to stat tracking and I'm hoping it spills over to refereeing. Bettors winning/losing because of bad refereeing on the regular can't be a good look.

People seem to think it's easy. Give it a try and get back to me. I agree that calls are missed, the problem I have is people acting like it is easy and that the refs are incompetent or worse, corrupt. Just give it a try and let me know how many calls you miss.
I was wondering how long it would take until this gets turned into something about the poor Leafs....

I think both of you make good points, having been on both sides of the fence. I didn’t go all that far with officiating (bound to happen when you don’t start until your late twenties) but I’ve seen firsthand how officials are taught to call games at least. From that, I can usually understand why the officials make (or don’t make) the calls that they do, even if I don’t always agree with what is ultimately a judgment call. What I will grant the officials is that they are performing to the best of their ability in accordance with their instructions. If someone holds the opinion that the “in accordance with their instructions” part is a problem, I’m usually happy to have a debate with them and might be inclined to agree in some cases. If someone’s argument is based on the opinion that NHL officials are incompetent, well, not so much. They’re human beings too, and make mistakes. Sometimes costly ones.
It ends up with me trying to defend the officials sometimes, which is a wildly unpopular thing to do though.

Also seeing it real time having no idea what's about to happen is not the same as watching it 10 times in slow motion after being told what they missed. At all levels of hockey, but especially the NHL, things happen so fast. It is quite chaotic to watch multiple guys going different directions while contact is allowed in some cases, but not all.

Yeah, but I didn't see anyone saying it's easy, I see you projecting that you think people say it's easy. Saying the referees suck isn't the same thing.
The problem is a lack of visible accountability, and also with the fact that players are out there ending seasons for $5000 fines or a few games' suspension while a coach says a few emotionally charged sentences and gets fined $25k.
Make it make sense.
