Movies: The Naked Gun (2025)

I was at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas earlier this week and there was a cinemacon for Hollywood studio employees or something. Anyway they put ads all over.

I think it's very similar. Drebin's disguises, 4th wall breaks.
This Drebin seems to be in on the joke and aware of the silliness of the situation. The original Drebin never was. Also, it would've been more like Drebin to kill the two bank robbers accidentally. He shouldn't be just a sillier version of Neeson's recent characters. He should be habitually inept, but unaware of it and still able to get the job done by getting lucky. Hopefully, this is just the movie's silly opening and not really representative of the rest of the movie, but I am a little concerned.

But it's Drebin junior and it's Liam Neeson. We expect brutality from Liam Neeson. these days. Don't you remember his cameo scene in Ted?

I expect him to act like Frank Drebin, otherwise they should've named it something else. It shouldn't be a parody of his action movies under the guise of being The Naked Gun.

I actually do agree that it does seem like a Naked Gun sequel but...

-I feel like Naked Gun had run it's full course through its trilogy. I don't think making another one is a good move.

-I rather see an attempt at remaking the Police Squad! show instead. Audiences weren't ready for such a concept back in the 70's, but surely a well made show would work in this age of streaming.

-Mind you, such a show shouldn't be strictly police related, maybe Law and Order, or CSI?

Anyways, I hope the new movie is good, but eh, I doubt it will be.

If it's from Seth MacFarlane I have very low expectations. The first Ted was hysterical - one of the funniest in-cinema experiences I have ever had. His movies since then have been really lackluster

This is going to be beyond awful and an embarrassment to a legendary film trilogy. Liam Neeson can be a very good dramatic actor when he wants to be but he doesn't have even a drop of the comedic talent that Leslie Nielsen did. That trailer wasn't even remotely funny.

Apparently they showed a longer version of the teaser at CinemaCon, where Drebin Jr tore the arms of a villain and beat him up with them. It very much plays off of Liam Neeson's "special set of skills" reputation.

Sounds hilarious :eyeroll:

It got one of the best audience reactions at CinemaCon.
Idk, ripping someone's arms off and beating them with them doesn't seem original or funny or like something that belongs in a Naked Gun movie. If they wanted to make a parody movie with Neeson that leans into his special set of skills reputation then that's fine but it shouldn't be a part of the Naked Gun series.
