I agree. He strikes me as a not-very-bright guy who had many addiction problems in the 70s and 80s. Sharon was the ruthless cheat as a manager (which she learned from her Shylock of a father) and I feel like Ozzy went along with it because he was submissive to his wife and was too dependent on coke and alcohol to collect himself and thing rationally.

This was always my favorite Ozzy song:

Agree with all, save the being not so bright.

I think he was always bright enough, but overwhelmed with insecurities, anxieties, depression, etc. IF you listen to, say, "Goodbye to Romance," "You Can't KIll Rock n' Roll," "Tonight," "Diary of a Madman," etc. there's a tortured soul in there who is sick to death of life.

For reasons of my own, I related to that, and always had a soft spot for Dr. Oz.

....he's also a playground 1 on 1 legend.

Oh, man. Thank you.

I needed that.

As for Simon on the court. who knew? Obviously Hawkins was playing to lose, but you can't deep fake Simon's surprising basketball prowess. Or maybe you can. I bet this was faked and then inserted into 1975.

Given his competitive, driven nature, it also doesn't surprise that Simon would be good at anything he set his hand to.

Including basketball.

There goes rhymin' Simon,

I remember watching circa 1976 and I do not think that much of it was faked even deep faked. You did not have the tell-tale cut-aways of the ball swishing or him dribbling then doing things.

I was just reminiscing about the time I got to see The Rolling Stones in Oshawa, Ontario. Keith Richards had to do a benefit concert because he was caught with heroin at the Toronto airport. He was convicted but the judge sentenced him to do the concert instead of money or jail/prison time.

I got to go because my boyfriend at the time was the son of a high powered executive who got handed anything he wanted. I had no idea at the time how fortunate I was to be there. The whole band showed up and then some. Great memory, I appreciate it more now than I did then!

If Nils had his way, Keith wouldn't have gone to Toronto!

'Keith don't go to the town called Toronto"

Again, happy birthday.

I remember the bust. That was probably 78.

Keith and the cockroaches will outlive us all.

I know these don't belong here, but "The Funny Thread" appears to be all cartoon. "It's Summertime" might find same jarring. Or perhaps baffling.

Craig Ferguson never baffled me,

I think I know one Britany Spears song. Six miles above my head and I was in my 30s.

Craig, after much, before much,

(You go, Britany)

Goodbye, Craig, and keep bangin' on your drum,

Again, happy birthday.

I think the conviction was in 1978 but the concert was in 1979. You are right, Keith even beat hepatitis - the man is incredible.

Thank you for the extra birthday wish!

Sorry...thought this was funny.

Keith Richards teaching Willy Nelson guitar cords.

I'm sure you've heard the story, likely apocryphal but unsurprising if true, about Keith going to Switzerland or somewhere like that and "changing out" his druggie blood for fresh stuff.

Don't tell me this man isn't a vampire,

Here's the cliff notes version. After he was fired for not wanting to sing the songs the band wrote and then formed his solo band, Ozzy did everything in his power to trash his former band and his replacement Ronnie James Dio. There's an infamous BBC radio interview of Ozzy in 1980 saying that Sabbath is dead and the line up with Dio was a mockery, as well as on numerous occasions going out of his way to attack Ronnie for his stature and height. He even went so far as to hire a little person named John Edward Allen, named him Ronnie, and would do a mock hanging of him at the end of every concert. Yes...Ozzy was that insecure. In fact, Ozzy even did an entire live album of Black Sabbath material called Speak of the Devil, as a petty middle finger to Black Sabbath's Live Evil album.

Dio, however, wasn't gonna get pushed around by Ozzy.

Furthermore, after Ronnie left Sabbath, Sharon and Ozzy would leverage Ozzy's popularity with venues and concert promoters to nix Black Sabbath tour dates at risk of never getting Ozzy tour dates in the future. They even went as low as to calling venues the night of and saying "Black Sabbath will not be performing tonight" and cancelling gigs on them.

Now...here's the part where I would show more links...but...the problem is that due to link rot on the internet and Ozzy having his legal team get this stuff get pulled down (gee I wonder why), it's becoming harder and harder to find this stuff more easily than in say...the mid to late 2000s. Which was precisely before Ozzy sued Tony for a 50-50 split of the Black Sabbath trademark. None for Geezer and Bill though...because...reasons.

Thank you for the synopsis. I didn't know much of this.

I bought and enjoyed Speak of the Devil at the time. I considered it a stop gap live album to buy time until his next original release.

OT but akin to what you're saying about erasure of info:

Remember Michelle Shocked?

I always loved her winsome, winning 1988 recording, "Anchorage."

I went looking for it on YouTube.

You know what?

I couldn't find it.

Not coincidentally, it occurs, Shocked said some bigoted and unpopular things at some point.

Cancelled.
