If the captain quits, what does that tell everyone else?
It tells free agents the room is broken. It tells them the plan isn’t convincing. It tells them the organization sold hope for years and still couldn’t build a team worth believing in. That is catastrophic optics for a franchise already fighting to regain credibility.
As far as I'm concerned, Yzerman has about 90 days to prove he shouldn't be fired. Either navigate these very difficult circumstances (that he put himself in) by making a very successful Larkin trade, followed up by additional good moves to right the ship, or don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Seeing a lot of Larkin is the guy that stirs the drink over there. Just shows not many watch the Wings. It's been Mo since he stepped onto the ice we just have had it lucky in not seeing the defense without him.
Also keeping bringing up him being hurt but his play declined in December well before that, and then he breaks out in the Olympics. Felt odd.
If this was in the works for a long time then maybe it's for the best, why would you want a mopey captain looking for greener pastures during a playoff push.
