Post-Game Talk: The milquetoast regular season ends … are better things ahead?

Skinner’s Jekyll and Hyde goaltending has me more frightened than ever.

Bring on the playoffs!
I'll mention it. Skinner looking thrilled with a shutout against an AHL club after a shitty season. he's doing, or trying to do glove bumps with everybody looking all thrilled, looky I shut out the worst team in the league, McD skates up and isn't even interested. Whatever expression is on McD's face and he skates away after the slightest of bumps. Like where were you all year buddy? I'm not saluting you.

Weird shutout too. Buzzer almost beater shot that beat him clean end of 2nd and a couple posts. 15 saves, not a lot of work.

Skinner playing the puck more tonight but that makes me more nervous than less.

Skinner doing just enough to be game 1 Starter and I still don't think he should be.

Actually somewhat impressive that they managed to break 100 points given all the shit that happened this season.
Sure. But Michaels comments on that tonight, kind of silly. They were comparing glory years Oilers teams and saying that two of those cup winning clubs didn't even make 100pts...

Well geniuses that was before 3pt games. This team wouldn't be close to 100pts either in a 2pt NHL. Debrusk and Michaels thought this was significant. Sure they didn't even think about it being an apples to oranges comparison.

Others. "McD getting 100pts again in the hardest time in the history of the NHL" really? Well that isn't accurate.

Finally more of the two droning on while play and scorng chances occur. This game was off but what a shit broadcast.

Depth Charge
Close out nothing game with this team's depth showing well against a lottery team. Liked Cam Dineen's smooth, puck moving game and Josh Brown showed fine too in a shorthanded 5 d-man deployment. Emberson with a two point night looked composed. That's three #6 - #10 defenders rolling out north of 20:00 games. Max Jones with his first Oilers tuck. Corey Perry with 19 goals on the season 11:51 toil.... 19 goals under 12:00 toi.

Playtime's over. Now on to the real games.

Would be 9 without the covid season and potentially 10 with the rookie injury.

Wasn't he mostly playing with Zack Kassian that season? And he didn't have an offensive D-man like Bouch or Barrie. He also missed a bunch of games. Still, if he had someone on par with Jeff Skinner or Hyman instead of Kassian, and/or a Bouch or Barrie level offensive D-man, he'd probably be at 9.

Dineen sure noticeable in this game. Wheels, moves but its against the dead sharks so hard to know what it means.

Sleepy game, which is the best thing. I thought Henrique had a pretty active game tonight too and lordy I hope you're saving it Nuge because this was nothing from you yet again. Arvid trying hard to play his way out of the lineup. lol. Even Kapanen was better.
That's what I saw.

There was a spell where Emberson was dead last on these...now he's first. Cam Dineen in second! If Stecher isn't ready for Game one, he should definitely get in over Josh Brown...who is predictably last on this, big hits and all.

Emberson also finished first in the last game (Brown was only second last).

I've thought exactly this for a while. Last year aside from the first 12 games pretty much everything went right for the Oilers in the regular season. This year it has been the opposite and yet the end result is not all that different.

The wild card for me is how close Walman and a resurgent Nurse come to make up for the loss of Ekholm. If they can mange to compensate even 80% for that loss and if (this is a big if) the Oilers goaltending is at least as good as last playoffs, I don't see why this team could not be better than last year's addition.

His interview after the game was something, he ended by saying “I thought I played well’. Fuhr won 4 cups here, I don’t think I ever heard him say that. Skinner beats a last place club in game 82 and here we are.

Every game Dineen has played for us he’s looked like he belongs in the NHL. Maybe he ends up being Kulak’s replacement next year if the team wants to save a little cap space.

#7 D

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Walman
Kulak-Stecher
Dineen

This is how it looked on the ice, another thing that bodes well. Emberson, over the last few where he was forced into more minutes, really responded imo. I think he might be ready for some tougher hockey.

Josh Brown, the blackest of the black aces, don't let him on the ice again please.

Cam Dineen continues to look like an NHLer. Love seeing guys come up and play with confidence. It seemed everyone on the team was looking to move the puck to him and see what he was capable of. If he can continue to show his defense can handle the big leagues his offense is definitely NHL caliber. Oil may have something here.
