I only saw him play one game so far, but I will be closely watching him going forward. I thought he was moving well for such a big kid, since at 18 and being that large it has to take some serious coordination to move like he does.

I don't know what he was like in his early teens, or by how much his mass/height increased year over year but I know that some kids that age that haven't been as heavy for that long tend to struggle adjusting to the increase in mass. But the important thing is now how much he improves over the next 5 years, as what he did or didn't do in the past won't matter much at this point if he can't progress. But if does show good progress year over year, yikes the Habs could finally have a big body that has skill and a willingness to exert his large frame against any and all that stand in his way.

For other posters giving posters a hard time for being over zealous, try to keep in mind that the draft just took place (think christmas time)and the kids are still gleaming over their shinny new toys. For me I am excited to see what he can do, and based off the little I have seen so far, I can see why the Habs took a chance on him and I see how greatly the need for a player like him in that we should fully expect to see fans of this team go overboard for him because if he pans out he brings something the club has lacked for a very long time and it's been a sore need.

Going to be a lot of fun watching him at London next year, hope he has a good camp for the US team and a good showing at the Memorial Cup.

I saw a 30 second youtube clip of McCarron last week.

He's terrible.

McCarbust.

Ha ha!!!

At least you didn't see him 30 times. Imagine how hard you would be laughing at the incompetence of Mark Hunter, Trevor Timmins, Andy Murray, and everyone else who overrated the bum.

McCarron lacks skills? I thought you had to be an undersized weakling to have them and to fit the Habs mold.:sarcasm: Seriously, I strongly doubt that McCarron will be nearly as bad as the ponderous, slow moving WHL stiffs Serge Savard drafted for the Habs. Who knows, he might prove to be a pillar of strength.

at his size, if he had some skills, he would have been top 10

He could be a Mike Rupp (9th overall initially), a Hugh Jessiman (12th overall), a Dainus Zubrus (15th overall), a Martin Hanzal (17th overall) or a Todd Bertuzzi (23rd overall). Who knows at this point? We're discussing a raw 18 year old and trying to figure out where he ends up five years from now. Anyone who calls him a definite star or a definite bust is definitely talking out of what they sit on toilets with.

Shades of Turner Stevenson...

He got skills and he can skate. Having been such a deep draft made him available at 25 any other weak draft with him in it he would of been top 10.

lmao a top 10 pick? This guy was the 35th ranked North american skater...

In a weaker draft, picking him up at 25 would have been more justified. The main problem I had with the pick was that it could have waited until pick 34, hypothetically speaking. A draft of Hartman, McCarron, Fucale would have been enormous. Regardless, what happened happened and we now have three strong prospects, despite what I and most initially thought.

Big guys like McCarron tend to be drafted earlier than their pre-draft ranking suggest. Waiting was a risk the habs didn't seem prepared to take.

Keep spreading your wisdom along with your fellow Leafs fans and tell us how Kadri is equal to RNH in value, how Clarkson is a better player than Perron, and how Lupul is better than Eberle.

Got it.

yup because all leafs fans are the same right? Can't say anything without people getting sensitive

Better prospect than Biggs ever was... ;)

that won't be determined for at least another 5-7 years. But when Bergevin drafted him i immediately compared him to biggs. Can't teach size, gonna be interesting to see how these kids develop

I'm with Biggs on this one - McCarron top ten on a weak draft? Seriously? He is what he is, a late 1st, early 2nd rounder, and he'd be as much in pretty much any draft.
