Post-Game Talk: The Mayor of Tampa does it again - Leafs win 4-3

BTW, not gonna complain about the refs, Tampa hit I think 5 posts. The hockey gods gave us a pass either way. Take the points and be positive. Now let's finish this.
I don't like complaining about the refs either, but after watching these past few games in Florida, you gotta wonder. The amount of holding and obstruction that those two teams got away with is really suspicious. The McMann penalty was ridiculous when both players were hacking away, and how does their dman grab Knies by the face to clear the front of the net when you know that if OEL did that he'd be in the box. The only PP we got was the result of a blatant call the refs missed and had to be reviewed. Like Berube said postgame, there were a few that the refs missed. Btw, if I recall, we had at least 2 posts as well so the hockey gods weren't as kind as you think.

I didn't think the Leafs would reach 100 points.

I figured there might be a longer adjustment to a new coach & players.

I did think they would make the playoffs.

2019-20 was the last time they wouldn't have hit 100 points over a full season...

That was the year Babcock got fired.

Last year, Treliving assembled a terrible team, and it still hit it.

I think it was almost guaranteed this year since he did a better job in the offseason.

I am honestly surprised they are doing so poorly.

Rewatched OT. Found myself actually getting mad at Rielly for how he played that 2-on-1. Neither takes the puck carrier in Point or Kucherov. Still clueless defensively

The third line was better this game, even if they were just barely better...

It pushed Laughton down and moved Robertson up.

Like I said, I am sure they will switch it back quickly if needed, it was only a game, but we need to figure out depth scoring too, because it has been a problem every playoff series.

Not much worked outside for the 1st line last night, I agree.
I don't mind McMann on the third line, it's Jarnkrok on the second line I don't like. Hopefully Paccioretty will be in that spot in the playoffs.

What is the record for block shots in a game by a team, because it felt like TB fired around 100 shot attempts at the net and when it wasn't hitting the post, a Leaf defender was blocking it and assisting our goalie?

During the 1st period they mentioned the most shots Rielly blocked in a game was 5, and he had already registered 5 BLS in that period alone.

Florida plays Tampa the last game of the season. I can see Tampa and Florida playing to avoid a first round matchup if that option exists. They have two wins vs Leafs, 3 wins in OT (Pitt, CBJ, Utah) in their last 14 games so if they lose 2 of their next 3 and Ottawa wins 2 of their next 3, it could come down to that final game of the season to determine who the Leafs draw in round 1. Sens play the Hawks who play the Habs the night before.
If we win 3 of 4, even if TB wins all 4 games, we finish first. Our destiny is in our hands. Don't leave it to Florida that last game, cause you know they're going to tank that game to play us rather than Tampa.

Hagel signed for 8 years at 6.5.

With cap going up considerably here is hoping Knies can get 8 years around 7.5. Maybe 8.

Or if he wants a bridge deal then 4 years at 5.5 maybe?
I do think Hagel will be kicking himself for leaving $10-20 million on the table. He could have signed a short-term and waited for the cap to go up He could get $9-10 million right now as a UFA

I fell out of my chair.

This last sentence is mildly concerning, but I think people come on HF for different reasons.

Have you ever seen the movie "Annie Hall". Woody Allen has this famous quote:

"I feel that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. That's the two categories. The horrible are like, I don't know, terminal cases, you know, and blind people, crippled. I don't know how they get through life. It's amazing to me. And the miserable is everyone else. So you should be thankful that you're miserable, because that's very lucky, to be miserable."

Relative to past seasons, they look worse, have fewer points, and are propped up by goaltending, which is supported by statistics.

You can think differently, just not sure it is supported by anything.

I don't wonder about conspiracies or other non-sense like that. Leafs fans think the refs are out to get them, but when you read the main board non Leafs fans talk like Leafs get favourable reffing (especially at home). We see things from biased eyes. Same thing when non Leafs fans were saying that Jim Hughson was a Leafs homer, when we were saying he hates the Leafs.

He’ll be a detriment come the plahoffs, he’s well on his way to being our next TJ Brodie…….

Calls his team soft on Tuesday.
Bags a hat trick on Wednesday.
That's some big boy energy right there - love this kid. He's a strong playoff away from me grabbing his jersey.
Definitely C material…….

How do you make these?
1. Grab the feed from the Sportsnet+ replay.
2. Disable "Use graphics acceleration when available" in Chrome settings (screen recorder will show a black screen otherwise)
3. Find the spot in the replay and use any screen recorder you want (you can use Xbox gamebar, I use ScreenRec)
4. Import mp4 into ClipChamp (online) and make the necessary edits.
5. Export as gif
6. Entertain forever
