Post-Game Talk: The Mayor of Tampa does it again - Leafs win 4-3

I really like da Tampa matchup for us .. their game flow really suits our team .. too bad it won't happen in round 1 .. so now we all gotta pray Florida gets 3rd and either Ottawa/Montreal are our opponents .. Florida as wildcard vs us is da doomsday scenario

Great game by Matty Mitch and especially Knies .. and big shout out to Tanev OEL and Carlo .. and a bigger shout out to Stolly .. look even Rielly looked good in that game until a mistake in 3rd and then another gulp in OT .. but against Tampa he can at least add value and he contributed with a nice rush up ice and feed to Matty who setup winner .. Rielly can be playable vs Tampa he just needs to be coached very closely

GLG .. I will be hoping for Montreal to beat Ottawa and Florida to beat Detroit and then we beat Montreal on saturday .. those 3 results make it 97% likely we get either Ottawa or Montreal round 1

I wouldn’t trade Knies for Hagel straight up

At 22 what Knies brings is nearly impossible to find. Was Hagel even in the NHL at 22?
Hagel came up when he was 20. Same age as Knies.

For the Leafs I would take Knies because they do nothave anyone like him.

But pretending Hagel is not better than Knies right now is crazy.

Hagel doesn't play with linemates as good as Matthews and Marner and can create a lot on his own.

Knies I think will grow into a bigger impact player eventually

Ottawa isn't going to catch Florida. The only outstanding question is whether the Leafs will play Ottawa or Montreal in the first round.

I’m saying I wouldn’t trade Knies for Hagel straight up. At 22 Knies is far more dominant than Hagel was and it’s not close. Hagel was barely in the league!

Knies at 23, 24 and 25 is going to be a 40 goal menace and creating havoc in front of the net on the PP.

Yes very likely but who knows who Maurice dresses down da stretch .. Ottawa does not want Tampa either so that helps us too

Hagel is 27 in a few months

If Knies puts up 90 points ever, I'll be surprised.

This isn't a knock on Knies, Hagel is just better.

I think the gap will close in the coming years, but it also sounds like Knies may be making a few more million per year.

Also, Knies may end up being the better player, I really like him, think he is super talented, just Hagel I think gets underrated by a lot of people.

This may have to do with his body type too... Hagel is pretty small.

Regardless, very happy with Knies.

Here you go. Hagel’s first full season in the league he was 21/22

This is Knies’ second full season at 22 hes put up 55 points

Hagel’s first full season he put up 24 points

Where are you getting 90 points from? Have you checked his stats? I can round up too and say Knies is a 40 goal scorer

The fact he has 85 points in 78 games, it is a 90 point pace...

It is way easier than saying "85 points in 78 games, which likely ends up being 90 points".

You can round up to 40 but that is not right, it'd be 32 doing the same thing that I did.

Hagel signed for 8 years at 6.5.

With cap going up considerably here is hoping Knies can get 8 years around 7.5. Maybe 8.

Or if he wants a bridge deal then 4 years at 5.5 maybe?

Florida plays Tampa the last game of the season. I can see Tampa and Florida playing to avoid a first round matchup if that option exists. They have two wins vs Leafs, 3 wins in OT (Pitt, CBJ, Utah) in their last 14 games so if they lose 2 of their next 3 and Ottawa wins 2 of their next 3, it could come down to that final game of the season to determine who the Leafs draw in round 1. Sens play the Hawks who play the Habs the night before.

The Habs/Sens game is pretty big now on Fri.

If Fla beats Detroit tonight, they will almost for sure take the 3 seed and the race becomes Ott/Mon.

6 points with 4 games left is going to be very difficult for Ott to pass.

If Fla loses and Ott beats Mon Fri then it's game on

As frustrating and stressful as it is, I am thrilled to be still scoreboard watching this late into a season.

Seems like we have known the Leafs opponent in the first round by Christmas every year.

This year it can still be 3 teams and might change on a nightly basis next week

A lot better of a performance against Tampa compared to Florida. Love how Knies called the guys out for being soft and comes out and has a hatty.

Team needs to lock it down though, need to find a way to come up with a 3rd goal when it's 2-0, or find a way to get a big penalty kill. Can't afford to let teams back into games due to special teams AGAIN in the playoffs.

The Saturday game against Montreal will be interesting if Montreal beats Ottawa on Friday. If that happens, don't be surprised if the Leafs play a very laid back game on Saturday and lose to Montreal.

McCabe's absence is a very big loss to the blueline.

After Rielly, you could probably argue he's our next best skater amongst the D.

He can move the puck and skate his way out of some oncoming danger.

If he or Tanev get injured in the playoffs the Leafs are in big trouble.

They are crucial to any success the Leafs woll have

I didn't think the Leafs would reach 100 points.

I figured there might be a longer adjustment to a new coach & players.

I did think they would make the playoffs.

They blew 2 and 1 goal leads and won a skills competition that does not exist in the playoffs. They were also outplayed and saved by some shoddy Tampa shooting. Missing their best sniper Guentzel was big IMO.
So it was a typo, we didn't win?
