Post-Game Talk: The Mayor of Tampa does it again - Leafs win 4-3

Im not sure if this was discussed, but I noticed that Bobby Mac was on the 3rd line again and Jarncrock was on 2nd again. Why? BObby made the line work botter, whats with the screwing around with good chemistry?

3rd line has been horrendous, and we need depth scoring badly.

I still think we should split up Nylander/Tavares and run a good 2nd and 3rd line, but it is kind of late for that.

I don't know what we will settle on, but I am sure they will put McMann back there quickly if needed.

He didnt make 3rd line better, he made 2nd line worse

The third line was better this game, even if they were just barely better...

It pushed Laughton down and moved Robertson up.

Like I said, I am sure they will switch it back quickly if needed, it was only a game, but we need to figure out depth scoring too, because it has been a problem every playoff series.

Not much worked outside for the 1st line last night, I agree.

I would not.

If it's a playoff game, sure. Not a regular season game that you're leading a week before the playoffs.
Read what you wrote. Are you saying they shouldn’t try to protect a lead in a regular season game against the team they’re battling with for first place in the Atlantic? The inability to do what’s needed is precisely why they loses.

As tempting as it sounds Nylander running his own 3rd line at center was a failed experiment

Doesn't need to be C.. also, kind of late to try it out, so I've come to peace with it, just think we should have tried spreading things out much sooner.

Haha and he tried to trade him to Chicago but didn’t Shanahan stop it?

He didn't, this board has run with it cause they don't like him, but he never actually put that offer out.

Also, I wouldn't be too upset if we had a winger on the left side putting up close to 90 points this season and signed for another 7 years at 6.5.

It's not like Hagel is some scrub, he's currently better than Knies and only 26.

Matthews deserves some props for that play on Knies gamewinner.

He makes a subtle stickhandle taking the puck from his forehand to his backhand and pulled it right under Point's stick.

It made Vasilevsky start to shift his weight to his right and thus by the time the puck reached Knies, he was totally out of position to have any chance at a save.
Hedman deserves props for heading north and leaving Knies alone when TB did not even have the puck. What was he thinking?

I wouldn’t trade Knies for Hagel straight up

Hagel is 27 in a few months

At 22 what Knies brings is nearly impossible to find. Was Hagel even in the NHL at 22? Just checked he played 1 game in the NHL 5 years ago

It couldn't be, less than 24 hours ago all I was being told was we can't win big games against playoff proven teams. The score must be a typo.
They blew 2 and 1 goal leads and won a skills competition that does not exist in the playoffs. They were also outplayed and saved by some shoddy Tampa shooting. Missing their best sniper Guentzel was big IMO.

But credit where credit is due, they came out strong and put Tampa on their heals. Florida plays a much heavier game than Tampa. They will not allow the Leafs the same room Tampa allowed yesterday.
