HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

Interesting discussion lately that I have heard. I think it was between Pierre McGuire and Tony but I'm not sure because I am watching like ten podcast lately. They were saying that the Habs are not able to be physiccal as they can because MSL is too restrictive. So like for instance Xhekaj did well last game in hitting within the confine of "separating player from puck" but he doesn't make doesn't thunderous impactful hits because he is scared to being caught and being punished. And this goes for Ghule and the rest of the roster. Whereas at this point in time Jack should be a real menace and scared the living Hell out of evetybody, The Caps players and coach know that he is restrained and so it's still open seaon on our guys cause of it. Like for instance, after the Carrier hit by Wilson, when the Habs knew the game was out of reach, why didn't Jack take the number and pound the living Hell out of him. And not just Jack. Guys should have gone after him left and right.

MSL is a a relatively young coach and maybe he'll realise this and learn from it maybe even not right away, Or maybe not at all. But it has to change.

More like people with pre-bias narrative wants to keep their narrative alive....for instance, after the hit on Carrier, it was 2-2....the game wasn't out of reach, it wasn't out of reach until Washington scored in the empty net.

Tony said before the only Xhekaj's presence would prevent those kind of hits happening.....now to keep his narrative alive, it was because the coach told him.....and how could he know any of that?? Is Tony or McGuire are in teams meeting now?

Slaf

Or the very least put Demi with Cole on the second line and keep Slaf with Suzuki

I would have 2 strong Duos

Hmm....okay, let's put Demidov - Suzuki - Caufield together.....who's your F1 ?

Who is the guy to retrieve the puck from those big Washington D, the one going to fight along the board or deep behind the net?

Demidov would get 100% crush, he already is not playing against the best D
Caufield is too small and it's not his game at all
The C is rarely if ever the F1 since he has to take care of D-zone assignment.

Putting Demidov with Cole is a recipe for a disaster, no matter who's the center as neither can be F1 on their line.

No I said Jack or somebody else should have taken Wilson's number and fix him after it was out of reach.

And just by numbers, the hits by the Caps were greatly reduced in the last two games with Jack in there. But ultimately the Caps knows the Habs do not have the freedom to go all out.

No so lets bury the best offensive talent we have on the 5th line ?

What are you talking about man?

What kind of logic is this?
Breaking up the first line is controversial to say the least. Some might even say it's stupid.

But you're sitting there saying it's a 'no brainer'.

Okay...

And how the Caps knows that ?

Anyhow, it might have been reduced because X was there....or maybe because it was on the road...or because they needed to in order to win this series and keep it for better oppenent down the road...truth is, we don't really know.

It won't happen because he doesn't speak francais, but Rick tocchet is done in VAN. I'd love to have him coach the habs

I've been saying it for a while to be controversial but Demidov + Slaf would instantly be our first line. It's the only thing I agree with Bombshell11

MSL is lile a bad goalie who makes every save look crazy but we all know its because hes got no technique.

Due to MSL’s lack of experience we’re making it way harder than it should be.

Demidov on the 1st PP from the second period of game 81 and onwards was a no brainer. <—- he wanted to use Laine… he was hurting the team, he could have qualified a long time ago.

Demidov on the first is also a no brainer but people here rather try to gaslight us and tell us everything is alright.
MSL is a far better motivational speaker than he is a coach. He got results this year not because of his X's & O's, but because he knows how to fire up his team

That's nothing against him, just how I see it personally. Good for the development days & respect to him for getting this team to the playoffs. I hope the impact he's made on our culture sticks with us for a long time even after he's gone. But I wish we had someone better & more experienced starting next year. Our team is ready to start competing and I don't feel confident MSL is that guy for us

I'd love tocchet personally. Very fun brand of hockey & he treats his players well for most part. Maybe he can learn French over the summer

Once again, it’s fine to have an opinion. It’s another thing to say the coach is a moron for not agreeing with it.

Btw, I have zero problem with is experimenting with the lines. But - next year. Not now. Leave the first line alone.

Don’t you think we’d be more effective if we had a second line a three right shots on the D?

MSL is working with a deeply flawed lineup.

MSL would be a great assistant coach , but at making coaching decisions in game , hes horrible. He would need to get experience elsewhere before to be honest.

You're hyperbolizing and extrapolating, never did i say MSL was a moron, he did a fantastic job at developing the young core.

And MSL agrees with my line of thinking, he will put Demidov on the first line or the very least break the 1st trio to make 2 strong duos, this is guaranteed.
MSL's problem is that he lets things go bad for too long and when under pressure he does not adjust.

It took him 2 months to put Hutson on the 1st PP... like why ? There's absolutly no explanation other than he's too closed minded as a coach or doesn't have the courage to make the decision himself, he waits for the player to force his way out of his assigned "chair".

And yet he’s gotten huge improvements out of his team every year, our prospects have developed well and he took a deeply flawed team to the playoffs.

I think he’s doing fine as head coach.

I’m not sure what your expectations would be with the rosters we’ve had. Did you think we should’ve made the playoffs in years past? You think most coaches would’ve gotten us to the playoffs this year?

That would be weird to put him as an assistant coach but i expect Pascal Vincent to comeback in the NHL with the habs soon

I hope so as a coach, he's got the full package to be the HC of the habs, experienced coach, speaks perfect french and english, charismatic.

Not trying to knock MSL here but MSL would be a great Assistant to Vincent

Why do you like Pascal Vincent so much? You're related with him?

27W 43L 12OTL is his record in the NHL as a coach. Missed the playoffs.

Not bad but why do you like him so much? He's the full package? Explain what that means.

Excellent record with Laval this year but we already knew Laval was going to be a strong team a year ago.

Of course but which team wouldnt be more effective with those improvements?

Again for a developing team, he might be the best coach of all time. I don't have as much faith in him for when this team Is ready to contend. I'm trying to imagine him coaching the Avs or Stars for example & i think both of those teams would do worse under MSL than their current coaches

Did you think we were going to improve as much as we have over the years? Did you expect us to make the playoffs this year?

Our prospects have developed really well. Our results have improved dramatically every year. We made the playoffs this year with a deeply flawed roster…

What more could he have done? Seriously, he’s been amazing for us. This is the best case scenario. What is it that you think he could’ve done differently or better?

I think as the team fixes its holes you’ll see us really take off. And I think MSL will deserve a huge amount of credit for it.

I really enjoy watching MSL learn how to be a better coach, he's not perfect but he's putting in a lot of effort. But he need to more flamboyant. I want to see his face going red next time the refs do something stupid.

Of course bro, dint you know already? im related with half the team

And? 1 season, means absolutely nothing... the guy has alot of coaching experience, he's a good public speaker and charismatic to top it off.

Not bad but why do you like him so much? He's the full package? Explain what that means.

For montreal.... excellent coach + good public speaker in both languages.

How exactly did we know we'll finish top ?
Regardless of how well Laval is doing, the guys show up in every game and fight for one another. No one is a passenger on that team and Vincent is responsible for that.
