HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

...I am still of the mind that MSL is out of his depth when it comes to the strategic X's & O's of coaching at the NHL level...hopefully he, Hughes, & Gorton will give serious deliberation as to MSL's future as the head coach of this team...imo, at this stage of the teams developement, a much more seasoned, strategic voice is needed...

In Habs land people can never be happy. No question this team needs more talent and toughness, next season we will have a lot more of both.

There are missing pieces and flawed players throughout the lineup and yet here we are, in the playoffs. Nobody could actually think we were going to win the cup, or that this would be an easy round. MSL is handcuffed by the lack of depth he has but he has still surpassed expectations. Still there are clueless people who want to fire a guy that took a bottom 10 roster to the playoffs, you guys have lost the plot, as usual. Even the front office didn't think we'd be here, we almost sold at the goddamn deadline.

Find me the coach that would have this roster dominating this round against a much bigger and more experienced team. There isn't one. You guys just love to cry, admit it.

Yes, its one of the reason why our transition games bad. We go left right a lot, which is good, it creates a lot of 2-on-1 league wide, I prefer this than quick 1-1 forward movement, but the pass always goes middle then stationnary winger, I'm not sure its the way to go.

Terrible coaching….

It took an injury to Laine to understand he doesn’t belong on the ice.

That 6 on 5 looked so much better than the PP with Laine.

I said it before the PO, i dont see us winning a game with this coach behind the bench, he doesn’t understand whats going on or hes got a low coaching IQ
Where did you pick the team to finish the season? Did you have them qualifying for the playoffs?

Martin isnt a coward, the things he does he doesnt do because hes scared. He does because he believes in it, wrong or not.

Maybe. But I still believe he keeps the same culture of not wanting to piss off the vets. Just like any old coaches used to do. That is why he'll never scratch Laine or Armia or Savard. Instead of actually doing accountability.

This is quite clear in my opinion. We could say he doesn't have the horses to do much but I have seen coaches with even worst line ups where they would play defensive and work in the limits that they had.

Even when we would win this season, we were the majority of times dominated. And then cause of the players' courage, they would come back. Too many players all alone to do shots at the goalies. Too many breakdowns, too many times of players missing their assignment. Too many times stuck in our zone. At some point, it has to be the system that simply does not work.

I've said this before and I think he has been a good indiviual coach to help the players one on one but less so as a structure coach. (and I have not mentioned his stubbornest)

Yes, but he does it because hes "played" and "knows".

This isnt support for MSL btw.
