HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

Marty got a lot of shit this season.

Let's not pretend he had a PO roster to coach.
Let's not pretend this team should be in the PO

Even if some nights they were underperforming, even if some night Marty made questionnable decision....overall this team overperformed the expectations and that is how you know if this a good coach or not. Although I don't think he should be winning it, MSL will surely get some votes for coach of the year.

I think he'll have a nomination at minimum.

Great article from arpon basu about MSL, through the words of his players.

Nothing we don’t already know except there is one speech that nobody on the team would speak about, but every player said it was the best speech of the season. It came on march 12, in Seattle between the first and second period.

On this:

“The one I remember is the one about burning the boats,” Hutson said. “I think it was something with soldiers, or Vikings, maybe, but they’re going to an island, and everyone’s on the boat. You get to the island, and you burn the boats, so you’re there. Everyone’s there, and you’re in, you’re bought in, everyone’s got to do what they’ve got to do."

It's Cortez and the Spaniards. Burned their boats when they arrived to the new world, to keep themselves motivated. Allegedly at least. Anecdote quoted in The Hunt for the Red October.

It’s about committing to a process, striving for team success and removing the alternatives. While it might not be the first choice, often times desperation is a more powerful driving force than inspiration and sometimes teams need to remove the escape clauses from their individual lives. In other words, pressure can create diamonds and sometimes teams need to bring their own pressure.

MSL the GOAT. He so smart.

Camera man did my boy Elliotte dirty with this angle:

Holly shit I knew MSL was Ivar! Except different legs.

Martin can’t coach.

those 2 goals in the third were very lucky, the caps spent alot of energy in the first and have heavier bodys so they got a bit tired at the end but we have a PP that is not working and he’s making zero adjustments

You cant win if you cant adjust because you’re scared to do so.

Laine healthy scratch is an obvious choice. Replacing him on the PP with Cole is the second obvious choice and putting Demi in Cole’s place is the third obvious choice.

Im all for trusting guys but when they cant move any more its time to use the big brain and tink big
