HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

How many missed shots though. What do the numbers look like for shot attempts?
Harder info to find.

Moneypuck has some info on shot attempts for the last 10 games, but no direct all shots attempt number that I can find (for teams, it exist for players).
Corsis is 3rd worst, but that's not a hard number.
HAbs are dead last for unblocked shots % that miss the net.
They are 2nd last for unblocked shot attempts on top of missing almost half the time (not even joking, the % is above 40).

Their percentage of blocked shot is around 10th in all situation, but mid-league for 5v5 (the PP has been abysmal).

no coach is perfect, and it’s hard for me to rag on him give that

The habs are 8th with a game to go when no one expected it
Cole and Nick have had career years across the board
Hutson has tied the assist record
Dvorak, Gallagher, Anderson have all had rejuvenated years
Guhle and Struble have taken the next step in their development

With all that mind, I can’t honestly sit here and trash the guy. The team and many of its players have exceeded expectations

Has he been perfect? Far from it. Does he bug me with some decisions? Definitely.

But...we were pegged as a bottom team and we might make the playoffs tonight. Your rants are misplaced and shows people just want to bitch about everything.
Doesn't it make it even more frustrating that all that effort and hope can come crashing down because of stubbornness of one man?

If people are blaming one person on our recent slump, then it's them that need to start figuring things out because it's their own inability to identify the problems occurring that has led to it. And if they can't or refuse, then one knows they aren't really educated in the game.

And there are some who just want to see some playoffs action from their favorite club and are a bit mad at some of the decisions or non decisions the coach made or dindn't make.......that's call second guessing or gerant d'estrrade not bitching.

Call me crazy but if you don't want to read those kind of fan's reactions you should not go and read a message board talking about the Habs

I just don't get why people adamantly defend this coaching staff. The lineup decisions make 0 sense, the PP has been putrid for a month now and the team hasn't had a 60 minute game in a long, long time. They're clearly not prepared and the system isn't effective at the NHL level. Marty was a great player, so was Gretzky, neither one is a great coach.

So the system doesn't work, but this team who was expected to still be bad this season, has been a top 10 team since mid-december, and a top 5 team since the 4-nations faceoff?

If the coach was good and the system was working, would they have been the best team in the league this season? Because thats what it sounds like you're implying...

Triggered are we? It's just a fact, deal with it.

HERE comes the quotes
every game we come back the next game and put our best foot forward

he at some point will hurt him covering the truth. not playing for 2 periods is not best foot forward

I like when the team gets outshot 3:1 in the first period , so we double down on the Armia line because he's so amazing at changing the course of a game.

Not sure we’ve been watching the same team - I swear Hutson, Suzuki, Caufield, Newhook, Guhle are getting loads of TOI
I'm not saying all the vets are overplayed, or that all younger players aren't getting minutes. Caufield, Newhook are getting normal minutes for their position/role. As do Slaf.

Guhle's minutes went down the last two games. He used to play 20-22 minutes (normal top 4 D minutes), he's been under 20 the last 2 games.

Hutson is the only overplayed young players. Suzuki is a vet now.

Matheson went from already playing too many minutes at 25ish, to playing over 27 minutes.
Last game, MSL played Gally for 17 minutes (along Dvorak and Andy), Gally used to tell coach he shouldn't play more then 15 minutes...

Savard minutes have finally gone down at least now.

It's actually Dach's fault if we miss the playoffs

MSL also takes some blame for playing him at 2C for so long

Hughes takes more blame for not providing a viable alternative
Ah yes. Let's blame Dach. Let's not blame the team's terrible start. Or games where they blew leads. It's Dach's fault yep.

Most GMs do not trust coach that have their team looking flat or very nervous in important games to be the coach when things matters. Habs management might not have planned to really make the playoffs this season, but how the team (and MSL) are responding these last few games would worry a lots of GMs about the coaching staff ability to prepare the team for important games in the future.

Habs are dead last in shots on net average per game in the last 12 games, the problems didn't start with the Sens game...
Most GMs wouldn't have expected our team to be where they are in the first place.

Dach takes zero blame and neither does MSL on that situation. Dach did the best he could with his injury and MSL didn't have an alternative for him. (Still doesn't.) If you want to blame somebody, blame Hughes.

But before you do, remember that he probably didn't think we'd be in the playoffs this year and figured letting Dach get better during the season would be the right play in the long run. Us being where we are is unexpected.

I posted this on main board but thread was sadly closed. Thus I am reposting in here:

Laine was supposed to play with Demidov and score at will from game 1. He was however put on the 4th line, and not with Demidov.

Result:
- Habs lost, failed to clinch playoffs spot.

Consequence/Demand:
- Habs fans are striking until Laine is played next to Demidov.

Multiple people are soon joining the strike, the amount of people striking is expected to go up by 400 % only today.

To Habs owners and MSL:
- Meet our demands and we stop striking.

To Laine:
- Hold on, just hold on, Ivan will be with you soon. Habs owners and MSL are nuts if they dont put you two together. Unless they are afraid to get in the playoffs????

I will update the list of striking Habs fans (and other fans) on this post. Say that you want to join the strike and I will add you. You can join also by using the emoji 🖖 List of striking fans so far:
@InsideLaineBOOM
GOOD NEWS GUYS: THE STRIKE WORKED!!!
We the strikers will hereby END our strike immediately!!!

Most GMs wouldn't have expected our team to be where they are in the first place.
Pre-season words from management: We want to be in the mix and play meaningful games in the Spring.

They wouldn't have said that, if they didn't expect it.
