HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

Starting OT with Matheson on Saturday and last night when Hutson's been starting them for months now is weird.

Also, I didn't hear MSL's presser, but I learned today he said that if the refs reviewed the Nazar goal before Habs had a chance to go, he would have altered his penalty shooters' order.

Sorry, but that is BS. Laine was on the ice already waiting for his turn. What would MSL would have done? Call Laine back to put Nick second instead? Or woud he put Demidov? I don't buy that.

I thought you had to submit your 3 players before shootout starts and after the first 3 it's ad lib?

He is flawed on so many levels, not that we have a better option right now. Do you like our coach in Laval for a future replacement?

I posted this on main board but thread was sadly closed. Thus I am reposting in here:

Laine was supposed to play with Demidov and score at will from game 1. He was however put on the 4th line, and not with Demidov.

Result:
- Habs lost, failed to clinch playoffs spot.

Consequence/Demand:
- Habs fans are striking until Laine is played next to Demidov.

Multiple people are soon joining the strike, the amount of people striking is expected to go up by 400 % only today.

To Habs owners and MSL:
- Meet our demands and we stop striking.

To Laine:
- Hold on, just hold on, Ivan will be with you soon. Habs owners and MSL are nuts if they dont put you two together. Unless they are afraid to get in the playoffs????

I will update the list of striking Habs fans (and other fans) on this post. Say that you want to join the strike and I will add you. You can join also by using the emoji 🖖 List of striking fans so far:
@InsideLaineBOOM
Wait, that post was serious?? I thought you were making a joke with that strike idea. Aren't you???

I would rather have Joshua Roy at this point that Laine on the ice. And this is coming from someone who has been writing off Roy as an NHLer for 3 years.

St Louis is not a problem , just nervous nelly fans are.
Montreal is 6 -2-2 in the last 10 games and yet
too many Idiot fans out there can't control their emotions.
At the start of the season this team was not expected to be in the playoffs, that is a fact (we are still in a REBUILD)
Here we are fighting for a playoff spot 4pts up with 1 game left, why is that a coaching problem?
We got the second youngest team in the NHL , and St Louis has done a damn fine job
to get these guys to game 81 with a chance to get into the playoffs.

  • SO WHAT NEXT ? If Habs get in and get beat out in round 1 vs Capitals ,will St Louis need to be fired cause we didn't win the Stanley Cup ?
Montréal is 6-2-2 but 3 of those games have been stolen by goaltending and at least one of those has been stolen by Nick and Lane. This team has been trash, absolute trash, and it's mostly winning on the back of 2-3 players.

The team should've been in contention for the playoffs last year, but with the growing pains and injuries, we let them off the hook. This year the goal was always the playoffs.

By the way they have been playing,it looks like that's what they wanted all along.lol
its defenitly weird, the ups and downs and lack of consitency looks like they're not playing for this coach but showing just enough of what their capable of to upper management

I am happy with MSL. He's not without flaws for sure. Also, MSL ain't going anywhere unless MSL decides to step down himself. MTL went from 68 pts in 2022-23 to 76 pts in 2023-24 and are now at 89 pts in 2024-25 with 1 game remaining. You don't get rid of your coach when your team has been progressing non-stop. Let's not forget, they're still in a rebuild, even though they have now entered another phase of it.

Pascal Vincent is a good coach who was in a bad spot in CBJ last year with how things went down with Babcock before the season started. It will be interesting if any other team who fires their coach will ask permission to talk to him.

You don't buy it because MSL is full of it. I think he has to submit the order ahead of time doesn't he?

Anyways, I think it's just him trying to add grievance to the situation, he's playing to the audience and the league showing that we really got ripped off here. And he's doing a really bad job of it.

It was. There was a thread opened and closed on the main board.

I think next year is hot seat year, I see two big flaws the team looks gassed outside of the 1st line and 3rd line and a large portion of it falls on MSL overplaying the vets and the rookies (hutson, Struble etc.) whove never played this much hockey in there lives. The 2nd is the inability to be prepared for the 1st period.

I think he gets a pass this year because no matter what the team did see a drastic improvement
69 -> 88pts is still quite a jump in a single season. If he can't replicate next year that's where he will face the hot seat

Marty is not in the hot seat next season, that's ridiculous.
The habs were not expected to make the playoffs this season, and they most probably will. He has the habs 1 year ahead of schedule.

I am not a fan of his decision making at all and I am attributing most of the point totals to Lane Hutson's amazing year. That kid won a lot of games for us. Why isn't MSL starting him in OT instead of stupid MM for example? I think MSL has an ego problem as well. I hope we don't lose Pascal

Yea, the MM thing confuses me, too. Especially when you consider he's been starting with Lane for months now.

The strategy's been simple. Lane, Nick & Dvorak start OT. If Dvorak wins the faceoff, he comes off and Cole comes on. That strategy has worked so many times. So not sure why he reverted back to MM.

I still believe that hiring a guy with 0 experience directly from a Peewee team was not the best decision.

I've never seen a team so unprepared to play first periods.
At some point how much is it on the coaches to have them ready and for players to take action? He used to have his starting line up set the tone but on some nights it hasn't worked. Would calling early timeouts be the difference maker? Would shuffling lines be the way to go? I'm genuinely asking because I did ask this question once to Basu and Godin mailbag

OK I'll play along, who should we replace MSL with?
I’m not into the weeds here I’m saying he’ll be on the hot seat?

The team can’t be perpetually. “In the mix” eventually we need to take a step forward and if you follow the timeline if this year it’s in the mix then next year in the playoffs if we’re not then I think it’s fair to expect his seat to get warm

St-Louis kinda doesn't like Demidov and it shows .. just the way he talks about the kid its obvious.

Hartley is trashing Marty ...on OnJase right now ... I love it.
